Weekend Takeaways

written by Parita 23 Comments

1.  Remember the exhaustion I mentioned earlier in the week?  Well, it hit me hard Friday night.  I passed out on the couch at 9:30, only to wake up at 8:00 the next morning.  Much needed.

2.  I think I’m going to change cleaning day from Sunday to Saturday.  After doing so this weekend, it just makes sense.  Sunday is the day of rest after all!  I may even change grocery shopping day to Saturday.  We’re living on the edge over here!

3.  I met up a college friend for lunch this weekend.  We decided to try a restaurant called The Cheese Course.  It’s actually a European-style cheese shop that also serves delicious sandwiches and salads.

Weekend Takeaways 010

The restaurant itself is very quaint and super cute.  And the menu offers lots of options to choose from.  I think I’m going to try a cheese course next time.

I went with the Spanish Field Greens salad this time around.  It was really unique – Manchego cheese, orange slices, red onion, black olives, and a honey-tarragon dressing.  A must try!

Weekend Takeaways 013

4.  Saturday night was game night.  Over the course of five hours, we played three different games (all of which were new to me) – Cards Against Humanity, Creationary, and Settlers of Catan.

Cards Against Humanity is SO MUCH FUN!  It’s the adult version of Apples to Apples.  If you ever do decide to play, make sure you are with people who don’t get easily offended and have a sense of humor.  Two musts.

Weekend Takeaways 017

Creationary is essentially Pictionary but with Legos.  This game was challenging, but our team ended up doing a great job!  Let’s just say it got the creative juices flowing!

And finally, Settlers of Catan.  I’m not even going to try explaining this game.  Apparently it’s all the rage right now.  Sadly, by the time I got the hang of what the heck was going on, it was 1:00 am and time to leave.

Weekend Takeaways 018

5.  Sweet potato puffs are awesome.

Weekend Takeaways 020

Sweet potato puff “nachos” are even better.

 Weekend Takeaways 021

Not only was this the perfect pre-football Sunday lunch, it was super simple to assemble.  Just top baked puffs with beans, salsa, cheese – microwave for 45 seconds or so – top with chopped onion, avocado and spinach.  Enjoy!

6.  What is it about Whole Foods that turns a stop for frozen Brussels sprouts into something much more.  $30 more to be exact.

7.  The Falcons lost.  Boo.  Sad smile

8.  I’m at work today.  Grrr…  On the bright side, my commute was awesome.

That’s all.  Happy Monday!  And to those of you who have today off, enjoy!

Definitely…

  • I definitely had a virus on my computer this morning, and I definitely freaked out about it.  And I thought Wednesday was bad!  Luckily the super smart IT guys at work made everything better, but it definitely took two hours.  And I definitely have the best bf ever.  He sent me an email this morning with detailed instructions on what to do if I couldn’t get IT to help.
  • It’s definitely snowing outside.  Big time (in my opinion).  And it’s supposed to continue into the day tomorrow.
  • I’m definitely moving into my apartment tomorrow morning, and the snow is definitely making me nervous.  I hope the movers are ready to work efficiently and quickly.  🙂
  • I definitely have not packed at all.  Everything is everywhere at this point, and I’m definitely not putting too much of an effort into it.
  • I definitely just spent a lot of money at Target, but don’t get too excited because it was on cleaning supplies for tomorrow.  What can I say, I’m definitely a neat freak!!
  • As nervous as the snow is making me, I am definitely excited to move into an actual apartment tomorrow.  I will finally be reunited with the rest of my stuff!  To be honest, I am definitely most excited about setting up my kitchen!  I can finally start making some yummy food and share (the recipes) with y’all!
  • I am definitely addicted, obsessed, in love with, etc. PB&Co. Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter.  I definitely eat it by the spoonfuls, and I definitely need help!

  • And finally, I am definitely loving tonight’s dinner.  Check it out…

Butternut squash ravioli and soy chicken cooked in EVOO and a few spices

What is a “definitely” in your life right now?!

Back in Beantown

Woo wee – it’s been a long day of traveling for me.  Hope your Sunday was less tiring and more fun than mine!  Well, I’m back in Boston, and although I do love this city, I miss home like crazy!  The past few days were so much fun.  I’m already planning my next trip home, which will more than likely be in early May for a friend’s engagement party!  I love having things to look forward to!

On the way back to my hotel, I stopped at Whole Foods to pick up a few things for the week.  I also wanted to try the salad  bar.  Check out my colorful and nutritious salad and the purchase I’m looking forward to eating the most.

Salad with all the fixings - spinach, beets, olives, peppers, quinoa, celery, chickpeas, and a piece of an enchilada (?)

Peanut butter + Dark Chocolate = HEAVEN

Dosa Night Recap

I didn’t get a chance to post last night because I wanted to maximize my time with the fam and Vishnu.  My mom made dosas, sambar (lentil soup/stew), and yogurt chutney/sauce.  Dosas are thin crepes filled with a spicy potato and onion mixture.  It was, hands down, the best dinner of the weekend!  Here is a picture recap of the night…

All set-up and ready to eat

I LOVE dosas!

The rest of the night was full of laughter, debates, and creative thinking because after dinner, my sister, Vishnu, and I played Scattergories – all 16 rounds!  Guess who won (as always)?!  ME!  Something to note about me is that I am a competitive board game player.  I love winning!  And it’s fun to win against Aek and Vishnu because they are major nerds and seriously two of the smartest people I know. 🙂

After writing this recap, I miss home even more…a little over a month until the next time though!

Ok, I’m out.  Have a great night, y’all!
