Three Things Thursday – April Goals, a New Book, and Nail Polish

written by Parita 4 Comments

Three Things Thursday is back!  Well, kind of.  Salma and Nisha decided to make TTT a monthly thing.  And guess what…they asked me to be a guest hostess for the month of April.  Thanks, ladies!

Three Things Thursday logo

Today, we’re going to talk about my April goals, my latest book, and a beautiful new-to-me nail polish that would look good on everyone.  Let’s get started!

One — April goals

So I wouldn’t say my March goals were a total fail, buuuuttt they weren’t a success.  If you recall, the two things I set out to do were 1. be in bed (lights out) by 10 pm on Sunday-Thursday and 2. take my SLR out for a spin once every weekend.  Let’s just say those two things didn’t happen as often as I would’ve liked.  Oops!

With that, I’m recommitting to my March goals in April.  But this past weekend does NOT count for obvious reasons! 🙂

I’m not travelling again (via an airplane at least) until the end of the month, so I think these two goals are very doable.  Wish me luck!

Two — my latest book

I’m slowly making my way through Gretchen Rubin’s books, albeit a little out of order!  I really liked The Happiness Project and absolutely loved Better Than Before and am now making my way through Happier at Home.

Happier at Home by Gretchen Rubin

So far, it reminds me a lot of The Happiness Project in that Gretchen takes on a new project except this one is based on creating more happiness in the home.  I really like her voice and find it engaging.  And even if I don’t always agree with her, I do seem to walk away with lots of new insights!

Three — Nail Polish

When I was at Target a few weeks ago, I somehow (!) found myself in front of the Essie nail polish display.  My gaze settled on the nude shades because two of them were marked with an Allure beauty award sticker.  As luck would have it, both shades were sold out.

That brings me to this past Monday.  I had a $3 off coupon for CVS in my wallet and Essie nail polish on my mind!  Thankfully, CVS didn’t fail me. The Ballet Slippers shade was available for me to purchase!

Ballet Slippers by Essie - the perfect nude shade

I can see why this shade won an award.  It’s the perfect whitish/pinkish nude, and I really do think this would look good on everyone.  If you’re in the market for a beautiful neutral polish, Ballet Slippers is it.

Well, that’s all I have for you today!  As always, thanks for reading.

Three Things Thursday (33) – London Baby!

written by Parita 13 Comments

I’m flying to London on Saturday!  This is a work trip, and as always, I’m super excited to see my coworkers and experience some new things while I’m there.

On the work front, end of the year trips are my favorite because they’re all about reflecting on the past 12 months and planning for what’s to come.

On a personal note, we have a few fun activities and lunches/dinners planned.  Woo hoo!

In today’s Three Things Thursday post I’m going to share a few (3 to be exact!) of the things I’m looking forward to about next week (so hard to choose).

London Baby!

Pret a Manger’s porridge and mixed berry compote

If you’ve read any of my previous London recaps, you know that Pret’s porridge is my FAVORITE!  I think half of London knows how much I love this stuff because I won’t shut up about it.

If you love oatmeal, you’ll go crazy for it. It’s so perfectly creamy and nutty.  And the compote is both sweet and tart.  I could go on and on!

You better believe that I’m getting my fill in the six days I’m there.  And I can’t promise that this is the last you’ll hear about my beloved porridge!

A night of theater

One of our evening activities is seeing the musical Kinky Boots at the Adelphi Theatre.  I wouldn’t say I’m a musical junkie, but when I go, I end up falling in love with the production (Wicked, Book of Mormon, and Aladdin).

I haven’t heard much about Kinky Boots, and to be honest, my only recollection of it is the poster at the Tube station near our office.  But I’m hoping that it too becomes one of my favs!

Dishoom

To be fair, I’m excited about all the food I’m going to eat next week.  BUT, Dishoom is the one restaurant I’m really looking forward to trying.  My friend Roshni ate there when she took a family trip to London earlier this year and raved about the experience.  She said the food is unforgettable!

I’ll be sure to try as much as I can and report back…you know, for the blog’s sake!

Well, that’s all I have today.  Happy Thursday!

A VERY Thankful Three Things Thursday (32)

written by Parita 10 Comments

Thanksgiving or not, I always find myself a in a more reflective space towards the end of the year. And as is the case every year (more like every day!), I’m so thankful for Vishnu, my family, our friends, and our health. I’m also thankful for the good times and the not so good times because each carries invaluable lessons that help us grow and be even more grateful.

In today’s Three Things Thursday post, I thought I would share some of the more personal things I’m thankful for this year in particular.

And this week’s post is even more special because I’m guest hosting the link up! When Salma reached out and asked if I would like to take this on, I said “of course!!!” I’m a huge fan of the SABN community – everyone is incredibly kind and supportive. And Three Things Thursday posts are some of my favorite to write because they allow me to share random snippets of my life that would otherwise never see the light of day (the horror!).

3 Things Thursday Badge

Ok, on to this week’s three things!

My job (and team)

I’ve mentioned this before, but I am beyond thankful for a job and more importantly a team that is so flexible with me, especially as Vishnu and I transition from city to city. With all the chaos that comes with our moves, it’s comforting not to have to worry about my job and if I’m going to have one!

Our trip to Italy

One of mine and Vishnu’s life goals is to travel the world….and honestly we’re a little behind! But we were able to cross one country off our list earlier this year – ITALY! The culture, the history, the sights, the food, the people – every aspect of the trip exceeded our expectations. So thankful I was able to experience it all with Vishnu!

P.S. I plan to share some of our favorite SLR pictures in an upcoming post. I’m a little behind!

All of YOU!

Even after almost five years of blogging, I’m still blown away by the fact that people other than my mom, sister, and Vishnu read MIS.

Not to be super cheesy – but THANK YOU for reading what I have to say. Every comment, email, message, interaction means more to me than you’ll ever know. I love sharing my life with all of you and hope you’ll stick around (forever and ever!).

Blue Sky 2016 Planner

Three Things Thursday (31)

written by Parita 7 Comments

I can’t think of anything to share in today’s intro.  Shocking, I know!  There’s just not much going on at the moment.  Not that I’m complaining.

Though I will say that I’m SUPER excited Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  GIVE ME ALL THE SIDES!

With that, let’s move on to this week’s three things…

3 Things Thursday Badge

(1)  My 2016 planner came in late last week!

I’m not even going to lie.  As soon as I picked it up from our front office, I came home, found a fine point sharpie, and started jotting down birthdays and anniversaries in my best handwriting.  This says a lot about my love for planners because my non-planner handwriting is beyond horrible.

The Athena planner is really well designed and constructed.  Good thing because I plan to take it everywhere!  And I absolutely love the black and gold color scheme.  If you’re a fan of simplicity and lots of white space, this is the planner for you.

(2) Early Thanksgiving with the hubby!

Referring back to my excitement about Thanksgiving, since Vishnu and I won’t be together for the actual holiday, we decided we’re going to celebrate this coming Saturday.  When I asked what kinds of foods we should make, the first thing out his mouth was “an entire turkey.”  Ummm…we’ll see about that!  I was thinking more along the lines of chicken breasts!  And of course, all the sides!!!

Thanksgiving 2013

A recycled picture from Thanksgiving 2013…look at that mac n’ cheese!

I’ll share all the details about our early Thanksgiving dinner in Monday’s post.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

(3) I’m going to be in Atlanta with my family next week!

So excited I just can’t hide it!

We have a few wedding related things to do –  hair appointment, food tasting, and helping my mom get ready for their trip to India in three weeks.  I also hope to see a few friends, watch a couple of movies, eat some delicious home cooked food, and R.E.L.A.X!

I hate spending yet another holiday away from Vishnu, but he’s working the night shift all week so it’s probably for the best.  And Christmas and New Years are right around the corner anyway!

Happy Thursday!

Khombu Ladies Winter Boots

Three Things Thursday (30) – Boots, Planner, and Overdrive

written by Parita 23 Comments

It’s Diwali this week (the holiday itself was yesterday)!  For those who aren’t familiar, Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights and it celebrates the victory of good over evil.

With that being said, we wish you a VERY Happy Diwali and hope the year ahead is full of love and light!

* * * * *

Other than being a little sad that we’re not at home celebrating with our families, this week’s been a good one.  Nothing major to report!

I do, however, have a few fun things to share in this week’s Three Things Thursday post.  So let’s get started…

3 Things Thursday Badge

(1) Winter boots

I know I was just complaining about how hot it is here, but these boots are not for our time in Florida.  These boots are what I’ll be wearing in Chicago come next December/January!

My sister found these Khombu boots at Costco and asked if I wanted a pair as well.  They claim to protect your feet in –20 degree weather, so we’ll see how they hold up.  I’m going to need all the help I can get!

While they’re not the most fashion forward choice, Aekta assures me that they’re fine.  And I’m pretty sure fashion is the last thing I’ll be thinking about during the winter.

If you’re a Costco member, go online and search “Khombu® Ladies Winter Boots.”  And if you aren’t a Costco member, I found the same pair on Amazon as well.

(2) A new 2016 planner

So I love how my phone and computer keep me organized, but there’s nothing like a paper planner.  My planners are my most prized possessions (a slight exaggeration but still…)!

I look forward to getting my planner, sitting down, and penciling in things like birthdays anniversaries, and other important dates.  And then as the year starts, I jot down things like weekly workouts, weekly meal plans, to do lists, blog post ideas, etc.  It’s a beautiful thing!

I loved the planner I bought last year and got something very similar for 2016 – the Blue Sky Athena Weekly/Monthly Planner.  I love how simply the Blue Sky planners are organized and also how there’s no bleed through on the pages.  And they’re pretty affordable.  My new one comes in sometime this week…can’t wait!Blue Sky 2016 Planner

(3) Overdrive.com

If you own a Kindle (or a similar device), you need to check out Overdrive.com.  My BIL introduced me to it.  The basic gist is that you can check out books from your local library and download them directly to your device.  ALL FOR FREE!  Of course, much like the old fashioned library check out process, there may be a wait for certain books, new titles may not be available right away, etc.  But still…FREE BOOKS!

That’s all I have today!  Happy Thursday…make it a good one!

If you’re a blogger, write a post and link back to one or all of the hostesses: Raj from Pink Chai Living, Nisha from Love Laugh Mirch, or Salma from The Write Balance. Then share a link to your post (not your blog’s home page).

Three Things Thursday (29)

written by Parita 14 Comments

Am I the only one who feels like 2015 literally flew by?  I know I say that every year, but I really mean it this time!  I’m looking forward to the rest of November and December, so I’d appreciate time slowing down a little.

I’ll in Atlanta with my family for Thanksgiving, I’m going back to London for a week in December, my sister’s coming to visit the week of Christmas, and we’ll back in Atlanta the week of New Year’s.  Can’t wait!

Anyways, more on all of that later.  Let’s get to this week’s three things.

3 Things Thursday Badge

(1) Spectre

Vishnu’s a HUGE James Bond fan.  I think we watched the trailer for Spectre the minute it came out!  When my manager mentioned that she saw the movie this past weekend and loved it, I went ahead and purchased tickets for me and Vishnu to go on Saturday.  And not just any tickets…IMAX tickets!  Wife of the year over here (ha)!

(2) Nude nail polish

Don’t get me wrong, I love a dark purple polish as much as the next girl.  And I know that the fall/winter seasons call for deep rich colors.  HOWEVER, I’ve been doing my own nails since June (ahem…toe nail fiasco…ahem), and nude colors just work out better for me for a couple of reasons.  They’re more forgiving, and when the color starts to wear off, it’s not as obvious.

My favorite nude polish is the Essie polish in Au Natural.  It’s the perfect sheer, beige nude shade.  LOVE!

(3) Daylight savings time

So I totally didn’t think it would take a toll on me, but this whole dark at 5:30 pm is driving me crazy.  I hate it!  The one silver lining is that it’s light out by 6:30 am which means I can run outside without having a heat stroke.

I hear it’s dark by 3:30 in Chicago.  HELLLLLLLLP MEEEEEEEEE!!!

Friends at an Indian wedding in beautiful Indian outfits

Three Things Thursday (27)

written by Parita 5 Comments

My energy levels at the start of this week were way down.  I was so tired, cranky, and out of it.  Turns out all I needed was some rest!  I’m now back to my normal, crazy self.

It’s a good thing I snapped out of it because Vishnu’s back on an easier rotation!  He’s usually home right after lunch, so when I get done with work, we cook, go for walks, watch TV, etc.  LOVE IT!

Anyways, on to this week’s Three Things Thursday…

3 Things Thursday Badge

(1) Khusbu and Adam’s wedding

Sweeti wedding 1

Me and Khusbu at our friend Sweeti’s wedding

We’re headed to Miami tomorrow for our friends Khusbu and Adam’s wedding!  So excited to celebrate these two!

Can you believe that we haven’t been back to Miami since June?!  Me neither.  The wedding venue/hotel is walking distance to our old neighborhood, so I’m hoping we can find some time to reacquaint ourselves!

(2) Spicy Thai Red Curry Veggies

Thai Curry Recipe

My sister made my Spicy Thai Red Curry Veggies recipe earlier this week.  I was thrilled and nervous all in one.  It happens every time someone tells me they tried a recipe of mine.  I have this fear that it’s not going to turn out the way it should and that they’re going to think I’m a horrible cook.  Luckily, my sister was happy with the way her curry turned out.  Phew!

(3) New boots and jeggings

Jeggings and boots

My walking tour of St. Petersburg with Jenny and Jimi last weekend inevitably led us to a cute little boutique I discovered a couple of weeks ago.  It has really great pieces that don’t cost an arm and a leg.  For example, I found FLEECE leggings for $12.  Not necessary in Florida but perfect for Chicago.

Anyways, I saw these boots in the display and asked to try them on.  I then told Jenny to give me her honest opinion.  She didn’t like the way my skinny jeans looked with them so she found a pair of jeggings and told me to try those on too.  The picture above does this little combo no justice, but I tried it with a few different tops and it works.

Well, that’s all I have today.  Have a great Thursday!
