#100happydays + Thankful Thoughts Journal

written by Parita 14 Comments

Remember how I said one of my goals for this year is to stay present and take things day by day?  Well, I’m actually doing something about it!  Actually, I am doing two things about it.

1. I signed up for a simple happiness challenge called 100 happy days.  When my friend Ankita emailed me about it and said that she was signing up, I couldn’t resist.

The idea of the challenge is to take a picture of something that makes you happy every day for 100 days.  You then select a way to share your pictures (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email, etc.), tag them with the #100happydays hashtag or a private one you create yourself, and watch the magic happen!  And if nothing else, at the end of the 100 days, you have a collection of happy pictures to look back on!

I’ll be sharing my pictures via Instagram @myinnershakti, so feel free to follow along.  And if you decide to participate, let me know how I can follow along on your happiness journey as well.

2. Vishnu and I resurrected our Thankful Thoughts journal on January 1st and are doing a fairly good job of documenting three small things that we’re thankful for each day.  Our goal (ok fine…MY goal) is to keep up with this for the entire year so that at the end of 2014 we have a long list of all the wonderful blessings in our lives.

Here are some of my favorites so far…

Parita – friendship, health, my hubby, coming home for lunch every day, cards against humanity, my family, having a TJs near us, a husband who tells it like it is, the nice man that held the elevator for me.

Vishnu – Par’s pep talks, chance to be a doctor, walking distance to grocery store, life challenges, football Sundays, a comfy bed, warm climate during the winter, weekends off.

Personally, the things that make me happy are the things I’m thankful for, so I think these two activities will help me focus on all the good “stuff” I have going on right NOW.  Not tomorrow, not a year from now, but NOW.

And like someone once told me, there’s nothing like a little gratitude to keep you grounded.

So tell me, are you going to participate in the #100happydays challenge?!  What’s your favorite way to practice gratitude?

Unplugging for Family

written by Parita Leave a Comment

Guess who’s back?  Parita’s back!

I knew I hadn’t blogged in a while when my mom asked if I was done with blogging.  Umm…no way, mom.  It’s called unplugging [for family]!

Well, I’m back after a very Indian Thanksgiving in Atlanta with both my and Vishnu’s families.  The past five days were too much fun!  Lots of laughing and eating went on, as well as some picture taking…

Vishnu and I had our engagement photo session this past Friday!  The pictures won’t be ready for another three to four weeks, but my dad had his own little picture taking moment before we headed out, so I thought I would share…

The past few days at home made me realize how lucky and blessed I really am.  There are so many things to be thankful for – Vishnu, my family, my friends, everyone’s good health, my job, the roof over my head, the food in my fridge, etc.  I could go on and on.  I think it’s time to bring my Thankful Thoughts journal back!

Anyway, I hope your Thanksgiving weekend was full of family, friends, fun, and food (duh)!

Thankful Thoughts

written by Parita Leave a Comment

Thank you all so much for you kind comments and blog love!  You have no idea much they mean to me!  And no worries, I don’t sweat the stupid stuff. 😉

So, the other day, I was reading Lisa’s blog and saw that she was taking on a 100 Mile in May challenge that was initiated by Amanda over at Small Home Big Start.  Amanda is committing herself to moving more in May and is asking for others to join her!  I’m joining the bandwagon and committing myself to 100 Miles in May, and if you’re interested, I encourage you to stop by her blog for more information.  Nothing like a goal to get you moving!

And there’s more fun news!  My good friend Mimo started her own healthy living blog last night.  I talked to her after work today, and she told me she took the plunge and created a new blog that’s based on her renewed interest in healthy, environmentally friendly eating.  Woo…I’m so excited for her!  Go over to Plate Full of Plants (cute name, right?!) and say hello!

And finally, I have a new “project” I want to share with y’all…

This is my new “Thankful Thoughts” journal.  I’m going to use this on a daily basis to document all of the things I am thankful for.  My mom actually started one of these a few weeks ago and told me about it.  She knows how I am with my deep, emotionally driven thoughts, so she suggested I start one too.

This concept couldn’t have been introduced to me at a more perfect time.  I don’t know why but recently I’ve had a lot of little moments where I’m overtaken with feelings of thankfulness and appreciation for everything in my life, especially the people.  I think maintaining this journal will be a great exercise in recognizing and focusing on all the beautiful things life has to offer versus dwelling on the negative, which I tend to do sometimes.  I told you I’m deep! 😉

So tell me…do you keep a journal of any sort or does your blog serve as a thought keeper for you?
