Weekend Recap–Just the Two of Us

written by Parita 11 Comments

Just the two of us.  The perfect way to describe our weekend.  Vishnu was home by 1:30 pm on Friday and didn’t have to work on Saturday or Sunday.  Instead of making specific plans to fill our time, we decided to wing it and relax.  No better way to spend the weekend, especially given that Vishnu’s going back to a six days a week/12 hours a day schedule.

Here’s how we filled our days…

Taco Bus

Vishnu was craving Mexican food on Friday and asked if I wanted to try Taco Bus.  I just so happened to have a Taco Bus coupon (one free entrée), so I was on board!

The coolest thing about this place is that the kitchen is literally located inside a renovated school bus.  So you order at the front window (much like a food truck) and take a seat on the outdoor patio where you food is brought out to you.  Thankfully, it didn’t rain on Friday, so we were able to enjoy our meal in the beautiful Florida sunshine (for once!).

I ordered the nachos – queso, veggies, and tofu (as my chosen protein).  The portion size looked small at first, but I was sufficiently stuffed by the end of our meal.  I’d definitely order this again!

Taco Bus 1

Vishnu ordered two tacos – fish and chicken – and was happy with his decision.  Everything was fresh and nicely seasoned.

Taco Bus 2

We hear that the original Taco Bus in Tampa is amazing, so we’ll have to check that out at some point.

College Football

Both the UGA and Georgia Tech games were on at the same time, so we switched back and forth between the two for a while.  House divided!

House hunting

We spent most of our Saturday morning looking at homes in Chicago.  Since we’ll be there for at least four years, we’re thinking about buying versus renting.  It’s all super exciting to think about but a little nerve racking at the same time.  Eep!

Reading

I FINALLY finished The Poisonwood Bible!  I’ll share more soon.

About Me page

I rewrote my About Me page.  It needed a bit of an update and an overall refresh.  Check it out!

Homemade treats

We were both craving something chocolaty on Saturday night, so I made a batch of Lindsay’s Freezer Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups.  You guys, you HAVE TO make these at some point.  I used crunch PB and chia seeds but feel free to add whatever mix ins you like.

I also made these Blender Banana Oatmeal Muffins.  I was looking for a healthy go to snack, and these muffins did the trick.  Fair warning, these are on the extreme end of the healthy spectrum, but still taste delicious.

Target

I had two things on my Target list.  I ended up coming home with four.  Not bad, considering that I can easily spend $100+ at Target.  And get this, I had $11 worth of coupons, so I only ended up spending $25.

I found this shirt in the clearance rack.  $6!!!  Plaid shirt + jeans + boots = my (eventual) Fall outfit.

Barre3 Online

After reading about Barre3 Online workouts on Kacy’s blog, I decided to take advantage of the free 15 day trial and see what the hype is all about.  I did a 30 minute workout on Sunday, and at one point, my entire body was shaking.  I’ll share more once I’ve tried a few more classes.  But so far, this whole Barre thing seems pretty legit!

Naan pizzas

With a lot of help from my friend Trader Joe’s, I made delicious naan pizzas for dinner last night – pesto, fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and chicken (for Vishnu).   Yum!

NFL games

Football season is officially upon us, people!  There was some serious game watching happening at the MIS house yesterday.  The serious part only applies to Vishnu.  I was in and out during most of the games.  I will, however, be watching tonight’s Falcons game because Matt Ryan is my QB this week, and his performance will determine whether I win or lose!  Wish me luck!

Well, these are just a few snippets from our weekend.  I hope you had a great one as well!

Happy Monday and thanks for reading. Smile

Weekend Play By Play

written by Parita 15 Comments

FRIDAY:

We kicked off our weekend with a movie on Friday night.  And I can now say that I’ve seen one of the six 2013 Oscar nominated movies.

In my opinion, Argo was amazing and definitely lived up to all the hype.  Even though I knew how the movie ended, I was [literally] on the edge of my seat from the very beginning.  Towards the end I was jumping up and down screaming at the TV.  It was intense!

Oh and we finally booked our honeymoon/first anniversary trip!  It’s official – Turks and Caicos in June!  I. Can’t. Wait!!!

SATURDAY:

On Saturday, Vishnu and I met up with my former coworker/good friend and her husband for brunch.  They were in town visiting her in-laws, and I’m so glad we were able to catch up.  I hadn’t seen her in over a year!  I’m already looking forward to their next visit.

weekend things 011

As I was getting ready for brunch, I found a few reminders of my old age…

weekend things 008

I’m no stranger to gray hairs, but I was shocked to see so many of these bad boys popping out of every which direction.  Eek!  Vishnu said I should pluck them all out.  Boys!  No drastic actions will be taken at this time – at least not for the next 11 months (i.e., my 30th birthday).

So I’ve been making my way through The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin and am trying to implement some of the things she talks about in the book.  First on my list – cleaning out and reorganizing my closet.  I now have a garbage bag full of clothes to donate and a closet organized specifically by type of clothing.  A small thing that has made a huge difference in my sense of calm.  I’ll write a full review of the book when I finish, but so far, I’ve found that her calls to happiness action are simple and easy to execute.

Saturday night ended on a high note with four episodes of The West Wing and a chapter of The Hobbit.  Wild, I know!

SUNDAY:

We must’ve been in a very brunchy mood this weekend because we met friends for brunch on Sunday morning as well.  These friends are getting married in June, so lots of wedding and marriage talk happened over coffee and eggs.  As much as I loved being engaged, wedding planning is not something I’d want to relive.  Talk about stressful!

After brunch, I ran a few errands, including a trip to Target, TJ Maxx, and Old Navy.  I broke my almost two month shopping ban at Old Navy of all places.  I found two pairs of pants for less than $8 each – couldn’t pass up a deal like that!  And I bought a 2013 planner from Target for $3!  While I’m all for technology, nothing beats the satisfaction of putting pen to paper.

weekend things 020

When I got home, I made two batches of Lindsay’s Sweet Potato Banana Bites.  These are the perfect snack – four main ingredients and super filling.  Vishnu’s planning on spending 8+ hours at the library every day this week, and I want to make sure he has something substantial to eat in between meals.

weekend 007

Sunday night ended with some cauliflower crust pizza and a few more episodes of The West Wing.  Obsessed much?

And just like that, it’s the first Monday of March.  Make it a good one!

Friday Finds

written by Parita Leave a Comment

Hi, friends!  Woo!  It’s finally Memorial Day weekend, and you know what that means…no work on Monday!  Yes!  I actually like my job, but it’ll be so nice to finally have a day off.

So let me tell you about my Friday finds.  After work, I stopped at Target to buy “a few things.”  Now we all know that one never leaves Target without picking up more items then initially intended.  Sometimes I’m able to fight the urge, but today was definitely not one of those days.

Let’s start with the most surprising find…

Friday Finds 004 Friday Finds 006

Yep, it’s true…I bought a 40 oz. jar of PB.  That may sound like a lot, but trust me…it’s really not.  I’ve loved this brand for as long as I can remember, and the natural variety does not disappoint…it’s AWESOME!  And the best part about this find is that the jar was on sale for $4.12!!!!!  What a steal!

My next find…

Friday Finds 008

I learned something about myself today…I am obsessed with books.  Really.  Every time I walk by the book section of a store, I want to buy one.  I’m not done with The Alchemist yet (although I intend on finishing up very soon), but I wanted something different to read this weekend.  Even though I’m not going anywhere, I thought it would be fun to sit by the pool this weekend and read something that doesn’t involve too much deep thinking.  I hope I picked a good one!

On to the next finds…

Friday Finds 001

Something I really want to accomplish this weekend is to get more organized.  I know, shocking!  I am usually so on top of things, but I don’t know what it is, I feel like everything (work, personal life, etc.) isn’t as put together as it should be.  To kick off “project get organized” I bought a new notebook for work and a mini planner for life.  LOL!  Do people still use these things?!  Nothing beats the old paper and pen method…works like a charm!  Plus, I LOVE the feeling of being able to literally cross things off my lists.

I also found a new workout top for myself…

Friday Finds 023

Hello!

In fact, I liked it (and the price tag) so much, that I picked one up for my sister as well.  You can’t tell from the picture, but it’s extremely light and apparently protects against UV rays.  Can’t beat that!

So that was my trip to Target.  I’m not going to lie, I picked up more items, but put them back at the last minute.  I plan on doing some more shopping this weekend, so there’s no reason to blow the bank in one day. Winking smile

Guess what was waiting for me when I got home…

Friday Finds 007

Yay!  I decided to buy this after seeing Gina’s awesome Open Sky deal.  Can’t wait for breakfast tomorrow!

Oh and this was also in my mailbox today…

Friday Finds 009

I recently won a fun giveaway on Amanda’s blog.  My prize!?  This awesome book on the other side of going Raw.  I don’t have any plans to change my eating habits, but I really do enjoy learning about different diets.  I think the Raw lifestyle has a lot of great insight to offer, so I’m excited to read this.  One more book to add to the ever-growing list…ha!

I think I’m going to finish the night off with a super cheesy chick flick via Netflix.  Yay for three day weekends!  I hope y’all have a great night and an even better weekend.  Smile

Any plans this weekend?  Any great deals I should know about?!  Please share!
