A New Reason to Love Miami

written by Parita 10 Comments

I have a love hate relationship with South Florida.  I love the weather and the beaches.  I hate the traffic and the way people drive.  But overall, it’s starting to grow on me.  It really is.

Over the weekend, while walking around South Beach, I realized why I really love Miami.  It’s quite simple actually.  When in Miami, people gain an extra ounce of confidence.  And to clarify, I’m referring to outward confidence and appearance.   It just seems to me that regardless of what people wear, they wear it with a sense of, “I like the way I look and couldn’t give a shit about what others think.”

Now, appropriate may not describe a lot of the outfits.  And there have been times when I’ve had to look away.  However, regardless of shape and size, people seem to embrace their bodies in Miami.  And they wear that confidence like it’s nobody’s business!

It could just be that when people are walking the streets of Miami, they are preoccupied with having fun and enjoying the weather versus what they look like.  It could also be that the heat and humidity forces people to dress a certain way.  Whatever it is…I absolutely love it (most of the time)!  It’s contagious in a way.

This may be a stretch, but when I think about all of the above, the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty immediately comes to mind.

And I’m hoping that by the time we leave this place, I’ve gained a few extra ounces of confidence too!

Weekend with the In-Laws

written by Parita 5 Comments

I count my blessings for a lot of things.  Having wonderful in-laws is definitely one of them.  Vishnu’s parents are awesome and a lot of fun.  I honestly don’t feel like their daughter-in-law…just their daughter.  It’s nice!

We were super excited to have them come stay with us this weekend.  The last time we saw them was early July.

After a 3 hour commute home from work on Thursday (still not ready to talk about it), I headed to the airport to pick up my in-laws.  Upon seeing them, I instantly felt better!  We stayed up for an hour or so after getting home just talking and catching up.

I worked from home on Friday and was able to get off a bit early, so we decided to go to the outlet mall before dinner.  After doing a little shopping, we headed to Lime Fresh for some good eats.  Vishnu’s parents loved Lime just as much as my parents did when they came to visit.  Even though we were all stuffed, I somehow convinced my father-in-law to try fro-yo (this was his first time!).  He loved it!  Although I think the huge selection of toppings overwhelmed him. Smile

We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at home on Saturday and spent a large portion of the morning talking about current events.  After showering and getting ready, we headed out to South Beach.  Vishnu’s parents had never been so we thought we would give them a small glimpse!  In fact, Vishnu’s dad first heard of it in medical school when a professor told him all about the beaches and the “openness…” if you know what I mean!  Luckily, we didn’t see anyone being too open.  Haha!

We decided to spend our time on Lincoln Road, an outdoor mall with lots of shops and restaurants.  After walking around a bit, we were hungry…so Pizza Rustica it was!

Everyone got their own individual “slice.”  I went with the goat cheese and eggplant pizza (pictured above) – it was deeeeeelicious!

We eventually made our way to the beach…

What a pretty day it was!

After looking through wedding pictures (I can’t get enough!) later that night, we headed out again for some Thai food.

Side note:  I am definitely done with eating out for a little bit.  After multiple work lunches and dinners last week and all of our meals out this weekend, my body needs a break!

Anyway, it was SO nice to have Vishnu’s parents come visit!!  I was sad to see them leave and miss them a lot – but am looking forward to seeing them again next month for Thanksgiving!

What’s something that’s always on your list of blessings?

Bachelorette Party Madness!

written by Parita 20 Comments

Helllllllllloooooooooooo!  Boy oh boy am I exhausted.  If you read my last post, you know that I was in Miami this past weekend for my bachelorette party.  And honestly, it was one of the best weekends of my life.  But now my sleep bank is –100 hours…oh well, it was totally worth it!

On Thursday, we hung out for a while, ate pizza for dinner, and got ready for a night out in South Beach.  We went to a place Mangoes, and it was definitely a night to remember.

The next day, with only 4ish hours of sleep, we got ready and headed out for brunch on Lincoln Road.  While eating, we played a fun game that tested how well I know Vishnu.  It just so happens that I know my man very well!

Later that night, we dressed up in matching tank tops and headed back out to South Beach.  Again, we had a blast dancing the night away.

The next day, we woke up bright and early for…an entire day at the spa!!!  My wonderful friends scheduled my very first massage for me.  Talk about zen!  I think I’m going to have to make this a regular thing.  All the girls also got pedicures.  Then, while we ate lunch, we played games, and the girls gave me fun little gifts!  Winking smile

I bet you can’t guess what happened later on.  Ha!  If you guessed yet another night out, you’re right!  We headed out for our final night out in South Beach.

On Sunday, those of us who were left headed out to Lincoln Road one final time for lunch at Sushi Samba and dessert at 4D (a gelato place).  Yum.  It was nice to eat something on the lighter side after indulging in fairly heavy foods all weekend.

And now, just like that, I’m back to work and real life.  So sad!  I may or may not have cried on Saturday night.  And when my sister left yesterday.  I can’t help it…the party was officially over.

Big takeaway from the weekend: I have the bestest friends in the entire world!  And I can’t wait to have them all by my side in June!!!

What I’ve Been Loving Recently

written by Parita 11 Comments

1. Buxom Lip Gloss

This lip gloss is pretty much the best thing ever.  It delivers the perfect amount of shine, creates the illusion of fuller lips, and keeps lips soft and smooth for hours.  And the best part is the slight tingle you feel upon applying the gloss.

I was actually able to try this via a free gift at Sephora, and the color I got was called Sugar.  Unfortunately, I lost my little sample while out in Atlanta with my cousins but plan on picking up a full size gloss soon.  You won’t regret this purchase.  Promise!

2. Zac Efron in The Lucky One

Anyone else?  After catching 17 Again on TV this Sunday, I was even more excited for The Lucky One to hit theaters.  The movie is based on the Nicholas Sparks’ novel and is set to be released next Friday!  When I first heard that Zac Efron was playing the male lead, I didn’t think too much about it, but after seeing the trailer, I’m kinda in love…with him.  And yes, Vishnu knows.  I don’t care what anyone says, he’s dreamy!

3. The Big Bang Theory

I can’t get enough of this show lately.  Every episode cracks me up.  And I have to admit, Sheldon Cooper is my favorite.  His inability to comprehend basic human emotions is endearing….most of the time.  Oh and “bazinga!”  Ha ha!

4. Knowing that in 48 hours I will be in Miami with my girls!

Oh, South Beach, we meet again!!!
