The 12 Books I Read in 2022

written by Parita Leave a Comment

I can’t remember what my reading goal was last year, but I’m pretty sure it was more than 12. It is what it is, and something is better than nothing I suppose!

One of my favorite reads of the year!

I’m going to up the ante in 2023 and make my goal 20 books. I’m feeling pretty good about that!

With that, here are the 12 books I read in 2022…

  1. Unbound by Tarana Burke
  2. Atomic Habits by James Clear*
  3. Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover
  4. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
  5. Hunt, Gather, Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff
  6. Lifepass by Payal Kadakia
  7. In Five Years by Rebecca Serle
  8. Book Loves by Emily Henry*
  9. Every Summer After by Carley Fortune*
  10. The One You’re With by Lauren Denton*
  11. The Book of Joy by Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Douglas Carlton Abrams *
  12. Good Inside by Dr. Becky Kennedy*

*highly recommend

This was very much a hit or miss kind of year in terms of books. The second half of the year fared much better, but I want to be better about picking out books that draw me in versus reading books/authors because everyone else is.

If you have any must read recommendations, please leave them in the comments or send me a DM on IG. I have a couple of books lined up, and even though I don’t want to follow the crowd this year, I’m always happy to get a personal recomendation!

Happy reading!

2021 Books To Date

written by Parita Leave a Comment

I set a reading goal of 21 minutes in 2021, and while I haven’t ticked it off every single day, I have gotten through some really good books. I’m now also lowering the bar to ‘however many minutes in 2021.’ HA!

With that, here are my 2021 books to date…with my personal rating (as you can see, I’ve made some good selections so far)!

  1. A Promised Land – Barack Obama – 10/10
  2. Untamed – Glennon Doyle – 10/10
  3. The Nightingale – Kristin Hannah – 9/10
  4. Untold – Brown Girl Magazine and Modern Marigold Press – 10/10
  5. Anxious People – Frederik Backman – 9/10
  6. The Four Winds – Kristin Hannah – 8/10
  7. Life’s Too Short – Abby Jimenez – 8/10
  8. One to Watch – Kate Stayman-London – 7/10
  9. Professional Troublemaker – Luvie Ajayi Jones – currently reading
  10. People We Meet on Vacation – Emily Henry – reading next
  11. What a Happy Family – Saumya Dave – reading next

Now tell me – what do I need to add to the list for the second half of the year?

11 Books for Your Winter Reading List

written by Parita 7 Comments

One of my favorite things to do, especially when it’s cold and gloomy outside, is curl up on the couch with a good book and a blanket.  Nothing like it!

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about how my daily reading ritual fell to the wayside because of other priorities and stressors.  Because of that, I had no reading list, and I felt like my only option was to start from scratch.  Except it wasn’t.  I totally forgot about the reading list on my phone in my notes app.  Thankfully, I found it just in time!

The books on my list come highly recommended from friends and family, so you know they’re good.  And now, I feel the need to share them on MIS just in case some of you are in need of a winter reading list (or wanting to add to an existing one).

Oddball Comedy Fest - Aziz Ansari and Amy Schumer

Three Things Thursday (25) – Comedy, Books, and a Date

written by Parita 16 Comments

I know I sound like a broken record every week, but it’s Thursday…how is that possible?  I mean, it’s mid-September.  WHAT?!

Anyways, I know you don’t want to hear me ramble on and on about how the days are flying by, so I’ll get right to it.  Here are this week’s three things!

3 Things Thursday Badge

(1) Aziz Ansari with very special guest Amy Schumer

Guess who’s going to see Aziz Ansari and Amy Schumer LIVE in Tampa on Vishnu’s birthday?!

WE ARE!

We are beyond excited because we’ve wanted to see Aziz perform live for years now.  It all came about so randomly too.  I texted a friend to see how she was.  She texted back.  Then a few minutes later she texted again to ask if we wanted to go to this show with her and her boyfriend.  I freaked out (from excitement), texted Vishnu, texted my friend back, and bought tickets.

WOO HOO!  I can’t wait to laugh and laugh and laugh!

Oh, and if you haven’t already, I highly recommend you watch this video of Amy Schumer on Ellen (thanks, Thea!).

(2) Crazy Rich Asians

I must be going through a rebellious phase with my reading list because I am not sticking to it at all!  I just finished The Poisonwood Bible and am now on to Crazy Rich Asians.  My friends Ankita and Rena highly recommended it and said that it most definitely should be the next book I read.  I’m only 5% in but so far so good!  I love all the characters already and can tell that the plot line is going to be a crazy one (hence the title I suppose!).

(3) Let’s go on a date!

As we were going to bed on Tuesday night, I asked Vishnu if he wanted to go on a date with me this weekend.  Of course his response was that we go on dates all the time.  While I agreed with that statement to an extent, I said that I wanted to go on a date date like we used to.  And then I asked him to plan it!  A few minutes later, he asked me what I wanted to do.  Haha!

No worries though, he came through.  We’re going to lunch on Sunday…because dinner would’ve cut into football time!
