A Week’s Worth of Happenings

written by Parita 3 Comments

Well hello there!  While I can’t say that my blogging break was unintentional, I missed this space and am glad to be back!

It’s been quite a week for sure.  We moved (!), we went to a Cubs game, and we attended a newborn CPR class.  That’s just the stuff we did.  Then there’s all the stuff that happened.

Let me tell you allll about it!

The biggest thing…WE MOVED!  And it’s done and over with <– the BEST part!  I will say that it was the easiest move we’ve experienced (and we’ve experienced four in the last five years), as all we had to do was take our stuff about 30-40 feet across the hall.  Thank goodness for awesome friends who willingly gave up their Saturday morning/afternoon to help us out!

While the move was logistically easy, it was not so easy on this almost 33 week preggo body.  My body ached like its never ached before!  In fact, I took two 2.5 hour naps on both Saturday and Sunday.  Like I said, thankfully it’s done and over with!  Now, it’s time to nest and really prepare for our baby boy!

The next biggest thing…we went to a Cubs game with my sister and BIL and had a blast!  The weather, while warm, definitely left all of us with itchy eyes and noses.  The pollen count combined with the wind made for an interesting outing.  My poor sister must’ve sneezed a thousand times! Regardless, it was fun cheering the team on, high-fiving everyone around us, and singing ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

This particular game was also special because our nickname for the baby is Kubs/Kubbie (with a K because of our last name).  We found out we were pregnant when the Cubs were in the World Series, so it only felt fitting!  Essentially, this was Kubs’ first Cubs game!  🙂

Vishnu and I also attended a newborn/child CPR class last week.  While Vishnu’s already certified in all of this stuff, I definitely learned a lot of useful information.  I just pray we never have to use it.

So that’s the stuff that we did.  In terms of stuff that happened to me/us…

My feet/ankles were super swollen on Friday.  Like the biggest I’ve seen them!  Naturally, I grabbed a pair of compression socks to help with the issue. I thought I grabbed a black pair, as I was wearing black leggings.  But nope.  I definitely grabbed and wore a navy pair that totally clashed with my OOTD (outfit of the day).  I wouldn’t have minded at all except for the fact that I had a doctor’s appointment, and of course, that’s where I realized my mistake.  My excuse (for everything) –> #impregnant.

Mismatched compression socks

I inadvertently ended up scaring the AT&T technician that came by on Wednesday to set everything up for us.  I made my way over to the new apartment a little before when he was expected to arrive.  When I walked into the unit, I saw that our bedroom door was closed and literally shaking. I freaked out, grabbed my keys, and ran out, ultimately running into technician as I opened the door.  Of course, I screamed…which made him scream. HOT MESS EXPRESS I tell you!  I apologized for my crazy, told him I thought someone/thing was in my bedroom, and asked if he would take a look. Bless this man because he did exactly what I asked and even checked our closets and bathroom for me…you know, just in case!  #impregnant…?  No, I’m just Par!

I’m pretty sure I’m forgetting a pretty funny [to me] Vishnu story!  We had quite a few moments this past week that ranged from “aww I love you” to “aww I can’t help but roll my eyes.”  Moving stress, and in general the third trimester (for both the mom and dad-to-be), will do that to you!

Anyways, have a great Tuesday!

Packing chaos in small apartment

All Moved In

written by Parita 10 Comments

We survived our move this weekend!  And not only are we all moved in, but we’re 95% unpacked as well.  It took a lot of work to get us to this point, but we did it!

When we moved from Fort Lauderdale to Miami two years ago, we hired a moving company to load, drive, and unload all of our stuff.  This also included breaking down our bed and putting it back together and other tasks like that.  And while all of our stuff got to Miami, it was such an ordeal on so many levels.  So this time around we went with a slightly different option.

For this move, we rented a U-Haul truck, bought all of the packing material off the U-Haul website, hired loaders and unloaders, and did all the grunt work ourselves.  I mentioned packing on the blog several times over the past couple of weeks, and while we did pack here and there, the majority of our stuff wasn’t put into boxes until Thursday and Friday.  We also wrapped all of our furniture in industrial sized saran wrap, which sounds like a lot of fun but is literally a pain (my back hurt for days!).

Packing chaos!

But I think all of our hard work was worth the effort because the move itself was relatively smooth.  The loaders and unloaders arrived on time, the weather cooperated, the U-Haul didn’t break down on Vishnu, nothing was damaged, etc.

As far as unpacking goes, we pretty much used most of Sunday to do just that, as well as organize all of our stuff.  My goal was to get the bathroom, the kitchen, and our bedroom in working order, and we did that plus a little more!

My favorite spot in the new apt!

Something we definitely could have done better is meal planning, and I don’t mean home cooked meals.  I wish I had researched options in our neighborhood so that at any given moment when either of us was hungry something could have been done about it.  We pretty much ate 1.5 meals on Saturday and 1.5 meals on Sunday.  Oh well, you live, get hangry, and learn!

To ensure that the aforementioned scenario doesn’t happen again, we also fit in a quick Target and Trader Joe’s trip (less than a 10 minute drive away!!) on Sunday in between the unpacking mayhem.  No one is going hungry around here anytime soon!

Well, that’s all for now!  I’ll share more about our new city in upcoming posts!

Thanks for reading!

Exhausted But Happy

written by Parita 26 Comments

Our move is 99% complete!  We still have a few things left to do at the old place, but for the most part we are done.  You guys, I can’t even tell you the last time I was this physically exhausted.  It’s kind of ridiculous.  But I don’t really care because we’re happy.  And that’s all that really matters, right?

To be quite honest, I don’t think I was as prepared for this weekend as I thought I was.  I left a lot until the last minute because we weren’t going very far (or at least that’s what I tell myself).  My procrastination led to a late Friday night and an early Saturday morning.

And don’t even get me started on our movers.  Let’s just say that if I didn’t take the initiative to call and ask where the heck they were at 10:30 (the time we were told everything would start), we would have been in big trouble.  I’m glad we don’t have to go through the ordeal of moving for at least another two years.  That just adds to my happiness.

We are currently 90% unpacked and organized, which isn’t too bad considering I was gone for most of the day Sunday.

I also wanted to say thanks for all the good lucks, well wishes, etc.  Y’all are the best!  [insert virtual hug]

And with that, I’m off to work.  No longer having to get in the car and drive for over an hour makes me SUPER happy!  Happy Monday!

Over Milk and Cookies

written by Parita 13 Comments

Last Friday, Dixya wrote about having a virtual coffee date with her readers.  It was so creative and fun to read.  I felt like I was sitting across the table chatting with her.  I loved her idea so much that I thought I would do something similar.  However, instead of chatting over coffee, we’d enjoy milk and cookies (come on, channel your inner five year old with me).

As we dunked our delicious chocolate chip cookies in milk and devoured them one bite at a time, we’d talk and talk and talk.  And by the end of our time together, we’d be best friends…forever!

If this cookie date were to happen today, I’d have a few things to tell you…

First, I’d tell you that I’m super excited about our move (tomorrow is the big day!).  Then, in the same breath, I’d tell you that I’m also super stressed because Vishnu and I have A LOT left to do.  We’ll probably be packing right until the movers arrive.  Oh well, it will get done…because it has to get done.

Next, I’d completely change gears and tell you about my new favorite lip product – the CoverGirl Queen Collection Jumbo Gloss Balm.  You’d hear about how amazing it is – rich color, creamy texture, and fantastic coverage (it’s not a stain, but it does leave my lips lightly colored).  I’d then tell you to go get the Jammin Gem shade.  It’s beautiful!

I’d then pull out my iPhone so that we could watch my favorite cute little kid video of all time.  We’d watch it several times…she’s that cute!

And finally, before we got up to refill on more milk and cookies, I’d share the following quote with you.  My sister’s professor shared it with her class during a lecture on eating disorders.  She really liked it, so she sent it to me!

Scales only have the power which we bestow upon them.
In reality, a scale is just a small household item made of metal & springs & dials.
A scale is a toaster is a blender is an electric toothbrush is a weed whacker.
Imagine if I said, "My self-worth is determined by the toaster."Sounds pretty weird, eh?
Or "I’m fat, the lawnmower said so!"
Or "I have to check with the blender to see if I like myself today."
The power only comes in when we choose to hand all of ours over to an inanimate object.

How true, right?

I told you I’m a talker!  No worries because it’s your turn next…

What would you tell me about if we had the chance to chat over milk and cookies?
