A Pair of Onitsuka Tigers Made Me Cry

written by Parita 6 Comments

Let me start by saying that those who know me best will likely not be surprised by this story.  It’s very Parita.

So Vishnu is a huge fan of the Asics Onitsuka Tiger line of shoes.  He has at least five different pairs.  If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a street sneak that comes in lots of different colors and style variations.

Up until this past year, I’ve never really been interested in owning a pair of Onitsuka Tigers.  Vishnu even bought me a pair he found on sale, and while I loved his thoughtfulness, the style just wasn’t my favorite.  They’re now my errand shoes. 🙂

With that being said, after searching high and low for my perfect casual sneaker, I found the PERFECT pair of Tigers.  These bad boys checked every box.  Neutral color scheme, not too bulky/wide, and decent price point.

You’d think I’d just hit the purchase button, but for some reason, I couldn’t.  The thought of buying these shoes made me feel guilty.  I have no explanation because I bought plenty of other things at higher price points so it wasn’t about the money.

Anyways, by the time I was ready to make these my own, every website was out of my size – Asics, Amazon, Zappos, you name it.  Vishnu told me he would keep an eye out and hit that purchase button as soon as he could.

And then…we had a baby and life got busy.  New shoes were no longer a priority.

Fast forward to Saturday afternoon.  Vishnu, Kaiden, and I went to brunch, and on our way back, I took a little detour to Michigan Ave to run a few errands while the boys headed home.  When I walked into the apartment, Vishnu asked me what size my first pair of Tigers are.  I told him, and he responded by telling me to check and make sure.  I opened our shoe closet, found the shoes, checked the size, and told him again.  I could tell he was trying to get to something but couldn’t figure out what.  When he realized I wasn’t getting it, he got up, walked over to me, reached into the closet, and pulled out a brand new pair of Tigers…the very ones I’d been eyeing for months!!!

What did I do?

Welllll…I burst into tears.  You guys, I had HUGE tears running down my face for at least 3-5 minutes.  It was a little ridiculous!

Vishnu, knowing full well this was a very Parita reaction, was still a bit surprised.  So he did two very Vishnu like things.  He hugged me and laughed.  While I cried and asked why he’s so nice to me.

I chalk all of this up to Vishnu’s thoughtfulness and…the last bit of pregnancy hormones that have yet to leave my body.  Ha!

But seriously, how cute is my hubby?  And how dramatic am I?

Also, if you can find your size, get these shoes because they’re awesome.  Also, we can be shoe twins! 🙂

My Husband Likened Me to the Queen and Other Happenings

written by Parita 5 Comments

The other morning (I think it was this past Sunday), Vishnu and I woke up and chatted for a bit before starting the day. During the conversation, we somehow started talking about kings and queens. And here’s how that went…

P: You’re the king of my heart! Am I the queen of yours?
V: Of course.
P: It’s like I’m Queen Elizabeth and…you’re Prince Phillip?! Hahahahaha. (obviously kidding)
V: OMG! You ARE Queen Elizabeth. And I am your humble servant. That’s it. That’s our relationship. Hahahahaha.

And then we started our day.

While I’m pretty sure Vishnu was joking, I would have to say that I don’t think the power balance in a relationship is ever 50/50. Maybe it’s just me, but I think in any given situation, one person dominates (even if it’s just a fraction more). For example, when it comes to deciding what we eat at home, how and when things are cleaned, and our finances, I am the one in charge. Of course, I consult with Vishnu, but in the end, he usually defers to me. And in situations having to do with our cars, major purchases, and any medical type stuff, he’s the go to person. And when it comes to the everyday issues, it boils down to who has more time (usually me). This system works for us.

Anyway, don’t let his comment fool you…he IS NOT a servant.  Anything but if I do say so myself!

Moving on…

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I was gifted something pretty amazing this past week by Vishnu and my in-laws.

camera 1

For the past two weeks, we’ve had two boxes sitting in our bedroom that I was told were off limits. We received the “final” package this past Monday, and that evening I was allowed to open my gift while Vishnu and my in-laws watched (via Facetime).

We had been talking about getting a DSLR camera for a while now but decided to wait since they are pretty expensive. Well, my amazing in-laws decided that we shouldn’t have to wait and bought me (us) one! I think they’re secretly hoping we’ll become really good photographers so that when we have kids we can share all of our frame worthy pictures with them! Not that anyone said that directly…

I’ve had a lot of fun playing with the camera over the past few days and am really excited to learn more.  I may even take a class at some point.  For now, I’m going to read lots of “tips and tricks” post/articles and watch as many instructional videos that I can.  Expect more pictures from here on out!

Thank you, mom and dad!!!  Y’all are too awesome!  And by the way, the other two packages contained a cute camera bag and a cleaning kit (gifts from Vishnu)…thanks, babe! #soblessed

In other news, my friend Shelly was given two tickets to see Hillary Clinton speak at the University of Miami and asked me to be her date!  What an amazing and unique opportunity!

To be honest, I’m not deeply familiar with Hillary’s political views so I can’t comment on them (nor do I really want to).  However, I respect her as a female leader and all that she’s accomplished with regards to women’s rights around the world.

Thanks for taking me with you, Shelly!

Well, I think I’ve said enough for today.  Have a wonderful weekend and do something fun!  We’re going to the beach tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And I’m Just a tad bit excited.

Do you think it’s possible for a relationship to be 50/50?
Any recommendations for photography sites or videos?
Weekend plans?

Prenatal Vitamins

written by Parita 18 Comments

This is not a birth announcement post.  Quite the opposite actually.

Let me repeat – I am NOT pregnant.

It’s just that my trip to Costco this weekend reminded me of a funny Parita and Vishnu conversation.  A conversation that took place next to a display of prenatal vitamins during our last visit there.

First a little context setting.  Our last pit stop was the vitamin/supplement section of the store.  Vishnu and I split up to find our go to multivitamin.  During my search, a display of prenatal vitamins grabbed my attention.  This particular kind was for women looking to get pregnant in the next 12-18 months.  I am clueless when it comes to pregnancy related things, so I picked up a bottle to show Vishnu.  And here’s how that went…

Vishnu: I found our vitamins.  Let’s go.
Parita: Look what I found.  These are prenatal vitamins for women looking to have a baby in the next year to year and a half.
Vishnu: [With sheer panic on his face.]  Ummm…ok.
Parita: [Pretty much talking to myself].  Hmm..I wonder if I should buy a bottle.  I mean I know we’re not looking to have a baby anytime soon, but it couldn’t hurt, right?
Vishnu: [As he took the bottle out of my hands].  Let’s just stick to our usual vitamins, Par.  You can look into these later.
Parita:  True.  And I should probably do a little research before I just buy something, right?
Vishnu: [Already walking toward the checkout lines.]

So, yeah.  Not pregnant.  Not even close.

But at least I know how to get my husband’s attention and keep it for all of 30 seconds!

Happy Monday, friends!
