I don’t talk about my day job on the blog much. I think I’ve mentioned that I work in Human Resources, and that’s about it. Well, it’s about time I share a little more, especially since it’s such an important part of my life.
I work for a global accounting organization, and in a nutshell, I’m a Global Project Manager on the People and Culture (P&C) team. We develop initiatives, projects, programs, etc. to help our member firms around the world attract, retain, develop, and empower their people. Obviously there’s a lot more to it, but that’s my high level elevator speech.
As I mentioned in one of my blog posts, our team spent this past week in Miami together discussing and planning for 2015. It was actually one of our best meetings to date. We stuck to our agenda, covered all the right things, and bonded as a team.
Since my daily work life is pretty much the same in terms of structure, I thought I would share some of the highlights from our team meeting. Truthfully, it’s just more fun to talk about!
MONDAY:
The 19 person team meeting didn’t start until Tuesday, so we used Monday to regroup as a mini team (there are four of us on our mini team). We reflected on 2014, discussed 2015 projects and strategy, and prepared for the larger team meeting.
Before we met for the day, my boss and I walked over to Whole Foods to grab some breakfast and chat. She’s based in London, so it was nice to connect in person!
After working away for a few hours, we broke for lunch. Mexican food, specifically guac, resonated with everyone, so we headed to Rosa Mexicano. So so good!
And then we worked some more…the view helped with the post-lunch slump!
Later that evening, the larger team got together for a welcome reception at OTC. Great food, great coworkers, great convo!
After eating breakfast at home, I walked over to the hotel where the larger team meeting was being held. Love it when our meetings are in Miami because I can walk everywhere!
We spent the entire day talking about our global strategy and the role of our team. Exciting stuff!
Dinner on Tuesday was at The Rusty Pelican, a Miami dining institution! While the food was delicious, I really loved the view!
Wednesday was more of the same in terms of our meeting – lots of sharing and lots of discussion.
On Wednesday night, we had dinner at Perricone’s. If you can’t tell, our team loves good food. Sometimes we plan our dinners before we plan the actual meeting agenda!
We met as a mini team on Thursday and discussed the outputs from the larger team meeting and a few of our projects in more detail.
And again, the views make our already fun meetings that much better!
Thursday night was a free night, so Thea (my friend and teammate) and I had dinner at Momi Gyoza. We both ordered the pan fried vegetable dumplings…yum!
FRIDAY:
Friday consisted of a little more team discussion, a couple of phone calls, emails, lunch at Balans, shopping, and sushi!
By the end of Friday night, I was EXHAUSTED! I was likely asleep before my head even hit the pillow!
SATURDAY:
Even though all team related things were officially over by Saturday, I have to mention the fact that all I did was clean, nap, and watch a movie. It was perfect!
I even made myself some breakfast for lunch!
And that, my friends, is how the Global People and Culture team does it! We work hard, play hard, and eat well!
What does your day job consist of? Do you love what you do?
