The Weekend That Didn’t Go According to Plan

written by Parita 16 Comments

Sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan.  Sometimes life throws curveballs.

This past week/weekend was the perfect example of this.

As I mentioned several times, this past weekend was my friend Monica’s wedding.  I flew to Augusta a little early to spend time with my sister, and Vishnu was supposed to fly in on Friday for the wedding.

Well, that didn’t happen.  I ended up flying back to Miami earlier than planned.

I don’t want to go into specifics (I hate vague blogging as much as the next person so I’m really sorry!), but everything is fine now.  And for that we are so grateful.

I am also so thankful for the gift of health, family, friends, and love.

I’ve said it a million time before, but it’s so important to maintain perspective in life.  Most of the day to day things that weigh us down mentally/physically are not as heavy as they seem.  If your health is in tact and your surrounded by a few awesome people who have your back, you’re doing ok.  My new life motto!

While Thursday-Sunday didn’t go according to plan, the rest of my time in Augusta was so much fun.  My sister is one of my favorite (and so many other people’s favorite) person in the world.  She’s extremely witty/funny, outgoing, and just plain cute.  In light of recent events, I’m so glad we got to spend quality time together.  Aek is definitely one of my awesome peeps!

Here are a few snapshots/stories from the earlier part of the week.

Morning oatmeal
Slightly cooler weather brought an oatmeal craving with it.  This was my breakfast almost every morning. YUM!

Dinner with NS
My friends Naveen and Shaylee invited us over for dinner.  Naveen made us some amazing Thai food that we enjoyed over great conversation and lots (and lots) of laughs!

Kinki Sushi 1
Kinki Sushi 2
Aek, her friend Lori, and I went to Kinki Sushi for dinner one night.  Truth be told, I wasn’t expecting much, but both of the veggie rolls we ordered were flavorful and delicious.  Just goes to show that you shouldn’t judge a restaurant by the strip mall it’s a part of!

Bees Knees 1
Bees Knees 2
And finally, we had dinner at Bee’s Knees, my sister’s favorite Augusta restaurant.  I decided to go with her Smoked Gouda Nachos recommendation for my entree.  They were so good!  So much cheesy goodness in every bite.  I also ordered a Spicy Ginger Ale to wash everything down.  It was an interesting drink with a slightly spicy kick at the end of every sip.

Did I mention my sister shares my love for good food?  Haha.  Such a great few days filled with lots of great food, way too much laughter, and lots of sister bonding time!

And even though we couldn’t be at Monica and Amit’s wedding physically that didn’t stop me from following along on Facebook and Instagram.  Every event looked like so much fun, and more importantly, Monica and Amit were both glowing!  Vishnu and I were so sad to have missed it but were definitely there in spirit.  Congratulations, Monica and Amit!

Have a great Monday!

Adventures In Augusta

written by Parita 12 Comments

Let’s take a minute to discuss the weather.  In one word, it’s cold here.  Of course, Georgia cold isn’t comparable to the weather in other parts of the country.  But Miami will do that to you though.  Turn you into a complete cold weather wuss!

Anyways, here are the highlights from my last few days in Augusta (where my sister goes to medical school!).

Monica
My friend Monica and I realized that we were on the same connecting flight from Atlanta to Augusta!  We managed to sit next to each other on the plane and talk the entire way.  Can’t wait until her big day!

Best Bites Family Dinner
My parents came to Augusta to see me!  It was so much fun talking and spending time together.  We went to a local Mediterranean restaurant called Best Bites for dinner on Saturday.  You know a restaurant is really good when everyone in our family loves it!

Best Bites Pizza
We shared the Best Bites special pizza (seen above!), a falafel wrap, and vegetarian moussaka.  YUM!

Chakri
We woke up to the smell of chakri on Sunday morning.  My parents were busy at work in the kitchen making one of our favorite Indian snack foods!

Red Velvet Cupcake
And then it was my turn to get to work.  I made Red Velvet cupcakes for my mom since she has a birthday coming up!  Red Velvet is her absolute favorite and this recipe definitely delivered.  They were delicious!  There’s really no substitute for baking with real butter, flour, and sugar!

When I told Vishnu about these cupcakes, he said that the next dessert I make will be real non-healthified bread pudding…for him!

Canal Augusta
After my parents left on Sunday afternoon, my sister and I drove to the local canal for a walk.   We spent the entire time talking (and laughing) in what Vishnu calls our sister language!

We ended the night with enchiladas (topped with my mom’s special green sauce) and the movie About Time (a good Sunday night movie).

And just like that it’s Monday.  Make it a good one!
