Three Things Thursday (12)

written by Parita 16 Comments

You guys, Vishnu and I are moving in two weeks and two days! Tell me why our apartment looks like we plan to live there forever. Maybe because I feel super confident that we can knock out all the packing in a few days. Let’s hope I’m right!

Anyways, enough about packing, let’s move on to my 12th Three Things Thursday post. Lots going on right now, but I’m choosing to keep it light, fun, and random today. Enjoy!

3 Things Thursday1. Sweeti and Sunay’s wedding!

Friends forever
We’re so weird!

We’re flying to Detroit tomorrow for my friend Sweeti’s wedding, and I could not be more excited! She’s going to be an absolutely beautiful bride! As for me, I’m pretty much counting on lots of dancing and no sleep…wish me luck!

2. NARS Blush

NARS_blush
I went to the mall last week to pick up a graduation present for Vishnu. This mall isn’t very big at all, so before I knew it, I was walking past Sephora. And let’s be honest, there was no way I wasn’t going inside to “browse.” As I was looking around, the NARS makeup section caught my eye. I’ve been in the market for a good blush for a while now, and I remembered my cousin telling me about the NARS Orgasm blush. A quick internet search showed tons of positive reviews and also convinced me that the color would work well on my skin tone.

Thankfully the internet was right! I love this blush. The color is pretty and light and gives the illusion of perfectly flushed cheeks. And the coverage is buildable, which is perfect for people like me who only want a hint of color.

3. Pitch Perfect 2

Earlier this week, a group of us went to see Pitch Perfect 2. If you loved the first movie, you’ll definitely like this one. Personally, I think the storyline was better with the first one, but the singing and dancing alone is enough to keep you entertained. And Rebel Wilson is HILARIOUS! I was afraid she was going to be too over the top for me, but I loved her acting. So funny!

Also, there’s a surprise half way through the credits, so if you can, stay until the end. Totally worth it!

And now I wish I knew how to sing…*sigh*

Have a great Thursday!

Firmoo glasses red and black

Three Things Thursday (11)

written by Parita 10 Comments

Thursday posts are quickly becoming my favorite to write because I can share whatever I want in a simple yet structured way! And it gives me a chance to talk about random updates and/or things that don’t warrant a separate post. Love it!3-Things-Thursday-BadgeWith that, here are my three things for this week…

One – Firmoo glasses

I was recently contacted by Firmoo, a global online optical store, to try out a pair of glasses. Prescription glasses at that. The ordering process was quite easy – select the frame you want, enter your prescription information, and hit submit. And for an affordable online retailer, I would say there are a decent amount of frames to choose from.

Firmoo1
When my glasses actually came in, I was super excited. I already have a pair of Ray-Ban glasses that I love, but I figured it’d be nice to have a back-up pair. Well, to be honest, I was happy with the frame and the way it looked on me, but I was a little disappointed with how thick the lenses were. I have a VERY strong prescription and was under the impression that I’d be receiving hi-index lenses. The misunderstanding was probably my fault. But because of the thick lenses, I don’t feel comfortable wearing the glasses outside our apartment. So they truly are back-up glasses!

Firmoo2
If you’re looking for affordable glasses, Firmoo may be for you. Just be sure to read everything thoroughly so you know what you’re getting!

Two – The Bright Side podcast

My friend Shannon introduced me to The Bright Side podcast, and I love it! In fact, during a recent 45 minute run, I listened to three episodes (each one is ~15 minutes long). If you’re into topics like work-life balance, leadership, communication, relationships, self-discovery, etc., this is the perfect podcast for you.

Three – Himalayan Earthquake

By now, we’ve all heard about the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25th. The last I heard over 7,500 people have lost their lives and 14,500 people are injured. I can’t even imagine…there really are no words. With every story I hear on the news, my heart breaks a little more. But what brings a tiny bit of comfort is knowing that so many people are doing what they can to support Nepal and its people.

If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you’ve probably seen Dixya’s name pop up every now and then. She’s the blogger behind Food, Pleasure & Health and a good friend of mine. Dixya is also from Nepal. Thankfully, her family and friends are all ok, but that didn’t stop Dixya from doing everything she could to help. Over the course of just a few days, she worked with number of different people and was able to send 50+ boxes of medical supplies and essential items to Nepal. Truly incredible!

If you find yourself wanting to help/donate but are confused by all the different relief organizations out there (I definitely was), I highly recommend you donate to Dixya’s cousins fundraiser – Himalayan Earthquake – Support the Survivors. They are trying to raise $10,000 to help a village called Nuwakot that was close to the epicenter of the earthquake. All funds will help provide basic needs (food, water, shelter, etc.) to this village.

Help Nepal Fundraiser

If you don’t have the money to donate right now, that’s ok too. In that case, please share the fundraiser link with family/friends, on social media, etc. Every little bit/act counts.

That’s all I have for this week!  Not sure if a Friday post will happen or not yet.  We have a big regional work meeting today and tomorrow, so we shall see.  If I don’t check back in, have a wonderful weekend!

Three Things Thursday (10)

written by Parita 8 Comments

There’s been a whole lot of Italy happening on the blog lately, so I thought I would mix things up by sharing some current (and random) tidbits via a Three Things Thursday post.3-Things-Thursday-BadgeOne – Apartment hunting in St. Petersburg

Vishnu and I are driving up to St. Pete to do a little apartment hunting this weekend. We’ve narrowed down our list of potential homes to four apartment complexes, and we’re crossing our fingers that at least one of them pans out for us. And even though I’m dreading the actual move, I’m kind of excited about living in a new city for a year. Vishnu, on the other hand, is a little nervous. But that probably has more to do with the fact that in about two months’ time he’ll be starting the next big chapter in his life…as a doctor!

 Two – Voluspa candle

My colleague and friend Thea gifted me a beautiful Voluspa candle for my birthday, and after using it as a decorative piece for the last four months, I finally used it for its intended purpose last night. Thea gave me the apricot and aprilia candle, and it smells heavenly. I think I’m going to make post-dinner candle lighting a thing now. It’s such a relaxing way to end the day!

Three – A Minted winner!

I’m excited to announce that Rachel is the winner of my Minted giveaway! Rachel, please email me at myinnershakti@gmail.com for all the details.

And a big thanks to Minted for helping me host this giveaway!

Well, that’s all I have for this week’s Three Things Thursday. Check in tomorrow for my final Italy recap post about Florence!

Three Things Thursday (9)

written by Parita 12 Comments

First and foremost, how is it already April? I know it’s the most cliché thing to say, but time is freaking flying right now. As excited as I am for the various trips, weddings, and other things we have going on this year, I want it to slow down just a little bit. Pretty please!

And now on a completely different note, I bring you another edition of Three Things Thursday. And while I usually try to stick to some kind theme with these posts, this one is truly random. Enjoy!3-Things-Thursday-Badge1.  Vishnu and I are headed to New Orleans this weekend for a friend’s wedding! I’m excited for yet another reunion, delicious food, and lots of dancing.

And because we get in at 7:15 am on Friday (we are taking the earliest flight known to man!), Vishnu wants to spend time exploring the city before the first wedding event. I told him I’m game as long as it involves some good food! Because of my request, Surrey’s Café and Café du Monde are on our list!

Any other must try restaurants/cafes?

2.  In an effort to avoid the mall at all costs, I recently bought Rimmel Stay Glossy lip gloss at CVS.  It was less than $6, and the color (All Night Long) looked similar to my beloved Clinique gloss.

You guys!  I LOVE IT.  And it’s really not because I had low expectations.  The color is rich and pigmented, and it stays put even after drinking the thickest protein shake.  And I don’t know if it’s just the color I bought, but I like how natural (and not super shiny) this gloss looks.

If you’re in the market for an affordable lip gloss, I highly recommend this one!

3.  If you’re an inspirational quote lover like me, you should consider following Elephant Health & Wellness on Facebook.

Fair warning – they post frequently throughout the day, but 99.9% of it is great!  Like this…
