Three Things Thursday (19)

written by Parita 14 Comments

I can’t wait for the weekend.  I usually don’t like to think that way because it goes against being mindful and living in the present.  BUT this is Vishnu’s first full weekend off in what feels like a very long time, so I can’t wait!

We’re going to take advantage of the Fandango BOGO deal and go see Trainwreck on Friday.  I’ve heard good things!  And Saturday is a designated beach day.  We bought new beach chairs at Target a few weeks ago, and I can’t wait to put them to good use!

Anyway, let’s move on to this week’s Three Things Thursday post.  This week, I’m sharing three things I’m loving lately.

3 Things Thursday

Let’s get to it!

(1) Wet Brush-Pro

Wet brush-pro

My mom gifted me this hairbrush when I went home.  And then she ordered two more for herself!  I love it because no matter how tangled my hair may be, this brush doesn’t snag or pull at all.  The bristles are flexible and leave your hair feeling super soft.

I’ve never put too much thought into my hairbrush, but this one definitely makes me realize what I was missing out on!

(2) Popsugar Active app

Popsugar Active app

I recently downloaded this app and finally got around to using it the other morning.  I’ve been a Popsugar workout fan for a while now and love that this app makes available even more amazing routines.  And they’re categorized by type (strength training, running, yoga, and cardio), which makes it even easier to find exactly what you’re looking for.  I did a full body strength workout and it. was. tough.  Love having this app as yet another option for a great workout!  I highly recommend you check it out!

(3) TSA Precheck

Vishnu and I finally got around to signing up for TSA precheck.  Our interview/appointment is in a week or so.  I can’t wait to bypass the regular security line for the next next five years.  I didn’t really think it was worth it when Vishnu first mentioned signing up, but after my last few trips, I’m 100% on board!

Well, that’s all I have this week!

If you’re a blogger, write a post and link back to one or all of the hostesses: Raj from Pink Chai Living, Nisha from Love Laugh Mirch, or Salma from The Write Balance. Then share a link to your post (not your blog’s home page).

Did you already or do you plan to sign up for TSA Precheck?  I think if you travel semi-frequently, it’s totally worth it.

Three Things Thursday (18) – Me, Myself and I

written by Parita 13 Comments

I’m not sure if it’s the fact that I just came back from a weekend at home or if it’s because Vishnu’s schedule is insane or if it’s because I don’t have any upcoming travel plans to look forward to, but I’m definitely starting to feel like life right now is pretty much me, myself and I… all day long!

Don’t get me wrong, I feel so incredibly lucky to be able to stay with the same company and work from home for a year.  And I’m so glad that Vishnu’s program is a good fit for him despite the crazy long hours.

Of course, all of this is temporary.  This time next year, we’ll be in Chicago!  But that doesn’t keep the occasional feeling of loneliness away!  However, I’m determined to not let it get the best of me.  I try to do little things each day to change up my routine and make each day feel different.

With that, I’m using this week’s Three Things Thursday post to share the little things I do to keep the loneliness and monotony at bay!

3 Things Thursday

(1) I step away from my computer for a full hour and take the time to make and eat lunch.  It’s never anything fancy, but by doing this, the day feels a little shorter and it gives me something to look forward to (obviously because food is involved!).  And if it works out timing wise, I watch Chopped, my favorite Food Network show, at this time as well.  Lunch is a real highlight these days!

(2) More than ever before, I’m on the hunt for fun/creative/new dinner ideas.  At about 6-6:30 pm every day, I shut down my computer and head into the kitchen with my iPad to whip up a hopefully delicious meal.  This is something I’ve always enjoyed doing, but it’s taken on a new meaning right now.  With Vishnu coming home at 8-8:30 pm every day and me not having any plans in the evening, I have more time to cook and experiment in the kitchen.  And the iPad?  Well, that provides ongoing entertainment in the form of music and podcasts.

(3) I’ve always been pretty good about keeping in touch with friends, but I’m trying to be better about scheduling phone/FaceTime dates a couple times a week.  This reminds me that just because I don’t have any friends in St. Pete yet doesn’t mean I don’t have friends!  #sadbuttrue

I know this post is a bit of deviation from my usual happy topics, but this is life right now.  Even though I’ve moved a countless number of times over the past few years, this move is a bit different in a few ways.

But like I said, it’s temporary, Vishnu’s schedule will get better, we have friends/family visiting over the next few months, and come August the St. Pete Junior League (an organization I joined in Miami) will start it’s meetings and events.  Also, now that I’m not travelling as much, I’m going to do some research and look up yoga/fitness studios within walking distance of our apartment (we only have one car).  Even if I go once a week, that’s still something!

Like my mom said to me when we moved here almost six weeks ago, I need to give myself time to adjust.  Not an easy thing to do for someone with a “it should’ve happened yesterday” kind of attitude!  But I’m trying my best to let time do its thing.

If all else fails, I have my sister’s wedding planning to keep me busy! Smile

PB2, frozen gyoza from trader joe's and enjoy life dark chocolate chips

Three Things Thursday (17) – Food Finds

written by Parita 12 Comments

Hello from Atlanta!

I flew in late last night and will be here until Sunday.  The main reason for my trip is to help out with a few wedding related things, but let’s be honest, it’s been five months since I’ve been home, so it was about time!

I’m so excited to spend time with my mom, dad, and sister over the next couple of days.  Aekta’s home studying for her board exams, so her time is a little more limited, but breaks are a good thing, especially when you get to spend them with your favorite person (right, Aek?!).

Anyway, I’ll share more about Atlanta in a later post.

Today I want to talk about my new favorite food finds via a Three Things Thursday post.

3 Things Thursday

Three Things Thursday - 17 - Food Finds

(1) PB2 is not a new-to-me product, but it’s one that hasn’t made an appearance in my pantry in a LONG time.  When Vishnu and I went to Costco a few weeks ago, I saw that a huge jar was under $6!  So of course, I had to buy two.

PB2 is essentially peanut flour.  You can mix it with a little bit of water to form a peanut butter like paste.  I don’t like it in that way at all actually and prefer to use it in our morning protein smoothies.  It really does add a nice rich PB flavor.  And that way, I can save my real PB consumption for something a little more substantial. 🙂

(2) If you have a Trader Joe’s near you, run there now and buy these Thai Vegetable Gyozas!  All you have to do is add oil to a hot pan, cook these on one side for seven minutes, add a bit of water, and then let them steam for an additional 10 minutes.  They’re crispy, they’re soft, they’re absolutely delicious!  You can pair them with plain soy sauce (as I prefer to do) or a soy/Sriracha mixture (as Vishnu likes to do).  They come in other varieties as well (shrimp, chicken, etc.).  You won’t regret it, I promise!

(3) Enjoy Life chocolate chips are not new to me either.  However, I’ve been searching high and low for the dark chocolate chips and almost considered buying a pack of nine bags on Amazon.  That much chocolate in the house would not have been a good thing, so I’m glad the Target near us stocks this variety.  If you’re a fan of dark chocolate, you’ll love baking with these chocolate chips.  They’re the perfect amount of sweet…and the perfect amount of addictive.

Well, that’s all I have today!  Your turn to share – what are three things you’ve been thinking about/doing this week! Couple in the movie theater

Three Things Thursday (16)

written by Parita 17 Comments

This was a pretty big week for us here in the MIS household.  Vishnu officially started intern year on Monday!  To be honest, it’s been a little bittersweet for me.  I’m so happy for him (us) and can’t wait to watch him thrive and grow in his career.  And on the flip side, I know I’m not going to see him as much as I have the past few months.  I guess the good outweighs the bad in this situation.  On to bigger things!

And on to this week’s Three Things Thursday as well!3 Things Thursday(1) We ended up going to see Jurassic World last Friday.  And while it wasn’t as good as Jurassic Park, both Vishnu and I enjoyed ourselves.  It was entertaining and fun to watch on the big screen.  And I pretty much held on to Vishnu’s arm the entire second half, so that same feeling of being a little terrified was still there!

A “we are scared” pre-movie selfie!

(2) Did you guys know that Fandango offers BOGO movie tickets every Friday through the end of August?  I didn’t either until Vishnu told me!  The only catch is that you have to have a Visa Signature credit card.  We paid $12 for two movie tickets.  $12!!!  That’s unheard of!

Click here to check if your credit card is a Visa Signature card.  And click here for the Fandango offer.

(3) My third update has nothing to do with going to the movies.  It is, however, a bit more exciting!  I’m heading to London on Saturday for work.  Not only will I get to see my colleagues that I only see a few times a year and eat my favorite porridge from Pret A Manger, but I will also get to meet up with Khushboo!

Khushboo and I have been reading each other’s blogs for four years now, and we finally have the opportunity to meet in person since she’s also visiting London right now!  Can’t wait!!

London

Luckiest Girl Alive Jessica Knoll

Three Things Thursday (15)

written by Parita 16 Comments

I really don’t have anything interesting to say for today’s intro, so let’s just get to this week’s three things!

3 Things Thursday (1) Luckiest Girl Alive

Luckiest Girl Alive
According to a number of articles, this book is supposedly the next Gone Girl.  Umm…I would disagree with that.  I had very high hopes for this book, but I don’t think it delivered.  My main issue with the plot line is that it touches on one too many heavy issues without digging deep into any of them.  Overall, I just felt that the book was a little superficial and left something to be desired.

(2) Jurassic World

Jurassic-World
I still remember going to the movie theater as a nine-year-old to watch Jurassic Park for the first time.  I was mesmerized and terrified and excited and in pure awe!  And this Friday, I will once again get to experience all of these things when we go see Jurassic World.  I. Can’t. Wait!

Vishnu keeps telling me he’s heard mixed things about this movie, and I keep telling him it’s going to be awesome.  Fingers crossed that I’m right!

(3) Remington 1.5” Curling Wand

Remington Curling Wand This curling wand is everything!  I never thought I would be able to curl my hair myself and actually achieve nice big waves/curls.  This wand makes it possible.  It’s super easy to use, heats up quickly, and comes with a glove (to prevent burning your finger tips!).  And the best part is that the curls actually last.  Just trust me when I say that if someone like me can use this and get great results, anyone can!

[And here are a couple of videos I watched before practicing on myself – Big Beautiful Hair and Curling Your Hair with a Wand.]

Well, that’s all I have today!  Your turn to share – what are three things you’ve been thinking about/doing this week! Chocolate covered katie cookbook cover

Three Things Thursday (14)

written by Parita 14 Comments

You guys, our apartment finally looks like a home!  I credit that to both mine and Vishnu’s intense dislike for clutter.  He may not be crazy like me in most ways, but he definitely hates a messy/unorganized living space!

Anyway, enough moving/packing/unpacking talk…until next June when we move to Chicago!

This week’s Three Things Thursday post is as random as they come.  Enjoy!

3 Things Thursday1. The Chocolate-Covered Katie Cookbook

Chocolate-Covered Katie Cookbook
My sister bought me this cookbook for my birthday because she knows I’m a huge fan of Katie’s blog and recipes.  I’ve made several of her dessert recipes (multiple times!) and am always blown away by how her healthy swaps result in such delicious foods.  I HIGHLY recommend both her blog and cookbook for anyone who loves desserts and wishes they could eat them everyday (because you can)!

CCK cookbook_choc chip cookies
I made chocolate chip cookies from the cookbook last night (only half the recipe), and in less than 24 hours, there is not a crumb in sight!

2. Saucony Kinvara 5 running shoes

Saucony running shoes
I’ve been on the hunt for new running shoes for a couple of months now.  And when I saw that these shoes were on super sale on 6pm.com, I jumped on the deal!  I knew they would work for my feet because they are similar to my old running shoes in terms of fit, width, etc.  And so far so good!  I really like how lightweight and supportive they are…and I LOVE the bright pink color!

3. Trader Joe’s Sparkling Mineral Water

Trader Joes Sparkling Water
Ever since our trip to Italy, Vishnu and I have been on a sparkling water high!  So when he saw a 12 pack of Sparkling Mineral Water at TJ’s, we rejoiced and have been drinking a bottle a day ever since!  There’s something about those bubbles that feels so fancy.

Your turn to share – what are three things you’ve been thinking about/doing this week! Packing up a small apartment all by yourself

Three Things Thursday (13)

written by Parita 15 Comments

I don’t have an introduction for today’s post. I guess I’m still tired from the weekend and have a lot on my mind in terms of our move, so let’s get right to my Three Things Thursday.3 Things Thursday1. The state of our apartment

Apartment
Our apartment is one big hot mess right now. We ordered boxes and packing supplies last week, and they all came in on Tuesday. As much as I hate this messy state, I’m hoping it motivates us to pack faster. At least packed boxes can be stacked on top of each other!

2. Essentialism by Greg McKeown

Essentialism
I’m not going to say too much about this book today because I have a post dedicated to it coming up tomorrow. However, I will say this much – it’s a powerful read for people who want to make their best contribution and stay sane while doing it. And the concept of achieving more by doing less falls in line nicely with one of my other recent reads (7 Habits of Highly Effective People) and my quest to make more time.

3. Brahmakumari Shivani

Recently, my mom has been listening to YouTube videos of someone named Brahmakumari Shivani. BK Shivani is an Indian spiritual teacher and inspirational speaker. Her talks are all about how to be a good human but from a very commonsense and normal place. While there are some religious references, she doesn’t use Hinduism to make her point, making her views more universal in nature.

BK Shivani
Anyway, ever since hearing about what a positive impact BK Shivani’s videos have had on my mom, I’ve wanted to listen as well. I started out by listening to the Hindi versions, but I felt like I wasn’t getting the full effect of what she was saying, so I gave up. A few weeks later, my mom told me to search “BK Shivani English” in YouTube, and lo and behold, there were tons of videos in English.

If you have some time, I highly recommend you watch out a video or two. If you listen with your whole heart, you’ll be hooked and 110% inspired…I promise!

Your turn to share – what are three things you’ve been thinking about/doing this week!
