Three Things Thursday (26) – Chicago, Burt’s, and Mindy!

written by Parita 17 Comments

It’s my sister and Vishnu’s birthday week!  These goofballs are two of my favorite people in the world.  I can’t wait to celebrate with Vishnu this weekend (AZIZ!) and with my sister next week when I’m in Chicago for a work trip (she’s up there for a rotation).

Anyways, let’s get right to my Three Things Thursday…

3 Things Thursday Badge

(1) CHICAGO!

city-skyline-599801_1280
I’m headed to Chicago for a few days next week!  Not only will I get to see Aekta, but I’ll also get to spend time with my Chicago + London colleagues.  And you better believe I’m going to try a new restaurant or two!  Can’t wait!

(2) Burt’s Bees Lip Balm with pomegranate oil

Burt's Bees Lip Balm
When I was home last weekend, I saw that my mom had an unused lip balm sitting around.  As is the case with lots of things my sister and I find at home, I asked my mom if I could have it.

I’ve been using it all week and can personally attest to the fact that this balm is awesome!  I love how moisturizing it is.  And it leaves the perfect pink sheen.  Thanks, momma!

(3) Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling

Why Not Me - Mindy Kaling

I’m a HUGE Mindy Kaling fan!  I read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) a few years ago, I watch The Mindy Project religiously, and I follow her on Instagram.  Huge fan!

I’ve heard lots of great things about Mindy’s new book.  So even though it wasn’t on my original reading list, I’m going to break my own rules yet again and read it next.  Woo hoo!  I see marathon reading Sunday being a thing this weekend. Smile

Well, that’s all I have this week.  Happy Thursday, and as always, thank you for reading!

Oddball Comedy Fest - Aziz Ansari and Amy Schumer

Three Things Thursday (25) – Comedy, Books, and a Date

written by Parita 16 Comments

I know I sound like a broken record every week, but it’s Thursday…how is that possible?  I mean, it’s mid-September.  WHAT?!

Anyways, I know you don’t want to hear me ramble on and on about how the days are flying by, so I’ll get right to it.  Here are this week’s three things!

3 Things Thursday Badge

(1) Aziz Ansari with very special guest Amy Schumer

Guess who’s going to see Aziz Ansari and Amy Schumer LIVE in Tampa on Vishnu’s birthday?!

WE ARE!

oddball-comedy-fest-ft-aziz-ansari-41

[Source]

We are beyond excited because we’ve wanted to see Aziz perform live for years now.  It all came about so randomly too.  I texted a friend to see how she was.  She texted back.  Then a few minutes later she texted again to ask if we wanted to go to this show with her and her boyfriend.  I freaked out (from excitement), texted Vishnu, texted my friend back, and bought tickets.

WOO HOO!  I can’t wait to laugh and laugh and laugh!

Oh, and if you haven’t already, I highly recommend you watch this video of Amy Schumer on Ellen (thanks, Thea!).

(2) Crazy Rich Asians

I must be going through a rebellious phase with my reading list because I am not sticking to it at all!  I just finished The Poisonwood Bible and am now on to Crazy Rich Asians.  My friends Ankita and Rena highly recommended it and said that it most definitely should be the next book I read.  I’m only 5% in but so far so good!  I love all the characters already and can tell that the plot line is going to be a crazy one (hence the title I suppose!).

Crazy Rich Asians

(3) Let’s go on a date!

As we were going to bed on Tuesday night, I asked Vishnu if he wanted to go on a date with me this weekend.  Of course his response was that we go on dates all the time.  While I agreed with that statement to an extent, I said that I wanted to go on a date date like we used to.  And then I asked him to plan it!  A few minutes later, he asked me what I wanted to do.  Haha!

No worries though, he came through.  We’re going to lunch on Sunday…because dinner would’ve cut into football time!

Elephant design iPhone case from Amazon

Three Things Thursday (24)

written by Parita 15 Comments

How is it already Thursday?!  This week has been a bit of a blur with Monday being a holiday and Vishnu’s schedule changing back to 11a-11p.  Other than that, it’s pretty much been work, eat, repeat over here.  The weather’s getting a little better, so I’m hoping to bring back the evening walk.  It’s all about the little things!

Anyways, let’s get to this week’s Three Things Thursday…

3 Things Thursday Badge

(1) I got a new iPhone case!

Elephant iPhone 6 case

Vishnu actually found the case on Amazon and asked if I liked it.  When I said yes, he went ahead and ordered it for me!  I love the Indian elephant design and teal bubbles.  It looks really nice on a gold phone too.  Again, it’s the little things!

P.S. If elephants aren’t your thing, there are lots of other similar designs available as well.  This one was a close second for me!

(2) Fantasy Football

I joined my friend Thea’s Fantasy Football league, and it is legit!  Get this, there are trophies and weekly awards.  It’s going to be so much fun!

Fantasy Football 2015

We had our draft this past Monday, and I did ok.  It’s an all girls league (hence the name!), and one of the rules is that you absolutely cannot ask your significant other for help.  I didn’t ask Vishnu for any pointers, but I did show him my team afterwards.  He was less than enthused about some of my picks!

Regardless of whether I do well or not, being part of an active league will force me to watch games and pay attention to all things NFL.  Vishnu’s dream come true!

(3) Google Photos app

Vishnu recently introduced me to this app, and I wish he had done so sooner!  It’s amazing.  Your iPhone photos are automatically added to your Google Photos app/account, so you don’t have to worry about them taking up extra space in your phone (i.e. you can delete photos from your iPhone album to create space because everything is saved in this app).

Now you don’t have to worry about running out of storage and then having to delete pictures. AND the app organizes all of your photos,  You can view your photos in one long feed or you can view entire albums/collections (even non-iPhone pics that were added to your Google account).

My review is doing this app no justice whatsoever.  All I know is that it’s life changing!  I highly recommend you check it out.

Well, that’s all I have!  Happy Thursday Smile

Do you play Fantasy Football?
What’s your favorite iPhone app?

Total Body Toner workout graphic from Tone It Up

Three Things Thursday (23)

written by Parita 10 Comments

Funny story of the day – I was scheduling a work meeting yesterday afternoon and totally scheduled it for Wednesday morning not realizing it WAS Wednesday.  I then stared at my Outlook calendar for a few seconds because I couldn’t believe the work week was half way over.  Say what?!

Anyways, let’s just get to my three random things for the week before I share more embarrassing stories!

3 Things Thursday Badge

(1) Vishnu’s parents and brother are visiting this weekend

Niel gets in tonight, and my in-laws get in tomorrow evening.  Unfortunately, Vishnu’s working 7a-7p both Saturday and Sunday.  We’ll make the most of their time here though, even when Vishnu’s at work!  Can’t wait to see them.

(2) This total body workout from Tone It Up kicked my butt.

Total-Body-Toner-Tone-It-Up

I repeated this sequence three times through, and it felt like my heart was going to beat right out of my chest.  In a good way of course!

(3) 2015 Summer reading list update

I’m still reading The Poisonwood Bible, a book that wasn’t even on my original list.  And it’s taking me forever, I know.  The book is over 550 pages (dense pages I should say), and it didn’t really grab my attention until about 100 pages in.  I’m hoping it’ll be more of a page turner now that the story is going somewhere.

To be completely honest, I almost gave up on this book.  After confessing this to Vishnu (who insisted for almost 10 years that I read it in the first place), he knowingly nodded.  When I asked him how long it would take for something to happen, he said to wait until after page 300.  Then it gets really good he said.  Well, I’m at 110 and it’s getting better so here goes nothing.

And as far as that Summer reading list goes, it’s looking more like a Fall reading list now.

Well, that’s all I have today.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a VERY delicious recipe (involving chocolate!).

Three Things Thursday (22)

written by Parita 10 Comments

Even though it may seem like bloggers share 100% of their lives with strangers on the internet, I guarantee that isn’t the case.  Personally speaking, I probably only share 5-10% of the true day-to-day behind the scenes kind of stuff.

With that being said, I thought I’d share three pictures that never made it on to MIS or any other form of social media.  A little backstage tour of my iPhone photos if you will!

3 Things Thursday

(1) Me and my boo

Par and Vishnu

My dad snapped this pic when they were visiting, and I would say it’s pretty typical Par and Vishnu!  And I promise Vishnu was just fine, even though it looks like he can’t breathe!  In fact, he loves it when I shower him with attention (AKA take over every inch of his personal space).

(2) Texting with my sister

Texting with my sister

Like I said in Monday’s post, I’m not a solo selfie person.  I’m also not a very fashionable person.  I have a few standard go to outfits, but beyond that, I’m pretty clueless.

BUT if there’s one person who I would send a solo selfie #ootd picture to, it would be my sister.  The funny thing here is that I’m the crazy texter in my family.  Like my parents thought I was drunk one night because my texts made no sense kind of crazy.  My sister, on the other hand, always has well thought out texts with zero mistakes.  And that is exactly why her use of the word “horn” made my day!

(3) A powerful quote

Quote

Words to live by!

Have a great Thursday and thanks for reading. Smile

Three Things Thursday (21)

written by Parita 9 Comments

Three Things Thursday is officially legal here on MIS.  Get it?  21.  No?  I know I’m a dork, it’s ok!

Moving on…

This has been a fairly full week.  My parents left on Monday, work is just the right kind of busy (as opposed to the “I want to pull my hair out” kind of busy), Vishnu’s new rotation is off and running (he only has to work three 12 hour shifts this week…win!), and our friend Rohit is coming in to town this weekend.  Enough stuff to keep me just one step behind!

Well, since I didn’t share a Three Things Thursday post for the last two weeks, I thought I’d jump back in with three random new-to-me things.

3 Things Thursday

(1) Snapchat

Snapchat - parpat23

I am [back] on Snapchat!  I originally joined earlier this year, and then deleted the app from my phone because I honestly didn’t get it.  Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat…it was all a bit overwhelming!  But then when I was in Chicago last week, my friends Ankita and Rena convinced me that it’s easy to use and really fun.  So I’m giving it another chance!

My username is parpat23, so feel free to add me if you want.  I’m still learning how the whole thing works, so my snaps may be a bit sporadic right now!

(2) A new ab routine

5 minute ab routine

[via The Live Fit Girls]

This short little ab routine is the perfect add on to any workout.  The whole point is to flow from one move to the next with little to no rest in between.  It looks simple enough, but when completed after a run or intense strength workout, you feel the burn.  And when I’m feeling extra crazy, I pair this with a little plank tabata!

(3) TJ’s Frozen Cheese & Green Chile Tamales

TJs Cheese and Green Chile Tamales

While shopping at Trader Joe’s a couple of weeks ago, I happened to be looking at the non-frozen tamales when a fellow shopper told me about the frozen ones.  She said that both are good, but the frozen ones are the BEST!  I took her word for it and brought a pack of the Cheese & Green Chile kind home with me.  You guys.  These bad boys, while not super healthy, are super delicious!  The corn masa is soft and the filling is slightly spicy from the chilies and gooey from the cheese.  A must try TJs item in my opinion!

That’s all I have for this week.  Thanks for reading!

If you’re a blogger, write a post and link back to one or all of the hostesses: Raj from Pink Chai Living, Nisha from Love Laugh Mirch, or Salma from The Write Balance. Then share a link to your post (not your blog’s home page).

Are you on Snapchat?  If so, let’s be friends!

Three Things Thursday (20)

written by Parita 14 Comments

I can’t believe this is my 20th Three Things Thursday post.  Time flies when you’re having fun!

Well, aside from this week crawling by at a snail’s pace, I don’t have much else to say.  So, let’s get to this week’s three things…

3 Things Thursday

(1) The Poisonwood Bible

The Poisonwood Bible

I created a summer reading list a few weeks ago.  I even managed to finish one of the books on that list.  Then, right as I was about to start my next book, Vishnu asked me why I haven’t started The Poisonwood Bible when I promised him I would (years ago!).

You see, this is one of his all time favorite novels.  And once upon a time when we first started dating, he highly recommended that I read it.  I promised I would, but it’s now been almost 10 years and I haven’t made it past page 10.  I just keep getting distracted by other books.  Ah the life of a book worm!

Anyway, I’m starting The Poisonwood Bible this week!  It’s over 500 pages long…wish me luck!

(2) St. Petersburg, Florida weather

St Pete 10 day weather forecast

I’m going to let this 10 day weather forecast do the talking because no one likes hearing people complain about the weather.

But seriously, WTF?!

(3) A simple cooking hack

Add 2 tablespoons of your favorite red wine to any bottled pasta sauce and allow to simmer on low heat for 10ish minutes.  What you’re left with is a delicious sauce that tastes anything but store bought!

Cooking hack with wine

That’s all I have for this week.  Thanks for reading!

If you’re a blogger, write a post and link back to one or all of the hostesses: Raj from Pink Chai Living, Nisha from Love Laugh Mirch, or Salma from The Write Balance. Then share a link to your post (not your blog’s home page).

Have you read The Poisonwood Bible?  Thoughts?
What’s the weather like where you live?
What’s are some of your favorite cooking hacks?
