Random Friday Musings

written by Parita 8 Comments

1. My friend Monica got engaged this past weekend!!! I’m so happy for her and her fiancé(!) Amit. I’m also happy that we got a chance to spend time with Amit when they visited Miami back in August. WOO HOO!

2. We now have seven weddings lined up for 2014 (that we know of at this time). Next year is going to be CRAAAZY!

3. We’re going home to Atlanta for Thanksgiving this year. I can’t wait for all the family time plus good food. Oh the food!

4. Vishnu’s attending a conference this weekend in South Beach, so for the first time in a long time, I’ll be 100% on my own for two days. Lots of exciting things lined up – a haircut (well, more like a trim), trips to Costco, Target, Marshalls, and Whole Foods, and a little bit of baking. It’s gonna be wild! Ha!

5. Remember when I forgot my network password upon returning from India? Well, it happened again, except this time I can’t remember the password to my password document. Let me explain. I created a Word doc that lists all of our online accounts and the corresponding passwords. For added security, I password protected my password document, and now I can’t remember the password. To make matters worse, there is no way (according to my research) to retrieve passwords for password protected documents. One of the help guides I was reading actually suggested writing the password down somewhere. Not very helpful at this point.

(I just re-read this paragraph. And now I’m dizzy. Sorry.)

6. Phase 3 of Best Body Bootcamp required us to use heavier weights for two of the workouts. For week 5, I used 10 pound dumbbells (the heaviest I usually go is 8 pounds). For week 6, however, I used 15 pound dumbbells! This just shows that slowly and consistently pushing your limits is the way to go.

7. I was dancing (also known as bopping) around the kitchen the other night as I was waiting for some food to heat up in the microwave. And in my head, I was singing “Snap Yo Fingers.” Five minutes later, as we were sitting down to eat, Vishnu started singing that very same song! WHAT? When I asked him how he knew, all he would say is that we’re connected. Well, duh! But really, how did he know? I still haven’t figured it out. I’m going to get to the bottom of this because I NEED TO KNOW!

8. We’re meeting up some friends for dinner tonight at a placed calledBombay Darbar. I’m so excited because these are the same friends that introduced us to Yard Bird and Rocco’s Tacos. Given their track record, I’m 100% positive it’s going to be a fabulous and delicious meal. Can’t wait!

9. Don’t forget to enter my Cook Smarts giveaway! It’s a good one, I promise!

10. HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

End of the Week Hodge Podge

written by Parita 7 Comments

In no particular order…

1. Vishnu wanted to watch This Is the End last Friday, and so we did.  Honestly, I thought I was going to hate the movie, like fall asleep half-way through hate.  I’m happy to say that I was so wrong.  I actually really enjoyed it and found myself laughing more than I’d like to admit.

Essentially, without giving away too much, it’s about a bunch of Hollywood actors living through the apocalypse.  The best part is that they all play themselves.  If you don’t get easily offended and like stupid humor, as I like to call it, this is the movie for you!

2. As Vishnu and I were walking home after dinner on Monday, I suggested that we take a stroll around the neighborhood.  He agreed.  I then suggested that we get cupcakes for dessert, since we had just eaten salads for dinner.  He disagreed.  I had a cupcake anyway.  I offered to share, but my husband was not in a very dessert”y” mood.  More for me…and it was worth every bite!

3. By the time Wednesday rolled around this week, I was exhausted.  Not just tired but “I wish I could crawl into bed at 7 pm and sleep until7 am the next day” tired.  No worries – that didn’t happen.  But I did fall asleep on the couch at 9:30, which means that I only watched half of the new Modern Family episode.  You know I’m tired when my favorite TV shows get put on the backburner!

4. After over eight years of being together, I finally convinced Vishnu to dance with me to Bollywood music!  For those of you who know him, you understand what a big deal this is.  Now, it wasn’t romantic dancing nor was it choreographed in any way.  It was just the two of us jumping around to old school Bollywood songs in our tiny living room.  SO MUCH FUN, and  I think even Vishnu had a blast!  I’m hoping to make this a regular thing.

5. I finally downloaded the new iOS7 and am loving it so far!  I even convinced my sister to download it.  And when she asked what the big deal with the new version was…

6. I am currently going through a Friends obsession (more so than usual).  I blame Vishnu because he recently got me the complete set of all ten seasons.  In the past week, I’ve watched…

  • The one where Ross and Rachael…you know
  • The one with the football
  • The one where everybody finds out
  • The one with the proposal
  • The one where Rachael tells Ross
  • The one with the Halloween party
  • The one with the lottery (one of my absolute favorites!)
  • The one with Phoebe’s wedding

O.B.S.E.S.S.E.D!

7. You guys are going to be so proud of me.  As I was walking out of our building yesterday morning, the lady in front of me abruptly stopped, turned around, and walked into me.  I felt my body tense up, but instead of getting upset over something so stupid and trivial, I smiled and kept walking.  Normally, I would’ve said something under my breath and shot her a mean look, as poor sidewalk manners are a pet peeve of mine.  So you see, this was huge!

8. Vishnu and I are going to a local Oktoberfest event on Saturday.  Unlimited beer sampling, small bites from local restaurants, and a music festival – woo hoo!

9. Next week is a big birthday week in our family.  Two of my favorite people will be celebrating the joy of turning one year older!  While I won’t be able to celebrate in person with my sister, I’ll be sending lots of birthday love her way!  I will, however, be around for Vishnu’s big day – lucky guy!  And I have a few fun surprises in store for him.  Can’t wait!

10. Happy Friday, everyone.  We made it to the weekend!

Random Friday Musings

In no particular order…

1. I got to work super-duper early on Monday (jet lag) and realized that I had no clue what my network password was because I changed it the day before we left for India. Nevertheless, I tried until the system locked me out. Then I called IT, only to learn that they don’t get in until 7:30 CST.

Once the whole password thing was all straightened out, I realized that my Outlook wasn’t updating because it was offline. I got back on the phone with IT, only to have my inbox deleted. I was back in business…THREE hours later. Happy Monday to me!

2. Speaking of jet lag, it’s a B****. It’s gotten progressively better as the week’s gone on, but my bedtime has been 8:30 pm every night. My goal is to make it to 10:00 pm tonight. Wish me luck!

3. I cannot shake this cold, and to top it off, my nose is now peeling at the tip. Vishnu tells me it’s because I blow my nose too often and too hard. He may be right.

4. I came home for lunch the other day to a very quiet apartment with Vishnu nowhere to be found. I walked into our bedroom and saw him intently playing a video game. The reason he couldn’t hear me was because he was wearing his headphones. I took the opportunity to sneak up behind him and wait until he turned his head and saw me standing there. I scared the living daylights out of him! I laughed and laughed while he just shook his head. And then I did it again…well 3 more times to be exact. That’s when he got mad and told me it wasn’t funny. Oops. I guess I took it too far!

5. Vishnu and I will be heading back to the airport tomorrow morning. We’re attending a friend’s wedding in NC. It’s an Indian wedding which means I get to wear my new outfits!

You see, the problem with Indian clothes is that after a while you have no choice but to repeat certain outfits, especially when it comes to weddings. At least I do. Until, of course, you or someone in the family goes to India. Now I have lots of new things to wear!

6. I’ll be in Chicago for a team meeting all next week. It’ll be nice to see all of my coworkers…and eat at fun new restaurants four nights in a row. Self-control…self-control…self-control. Yeahhh…we’ll see about that.

7. I’m participating in the next round of Best Body Bootcamp. Woo! I honestly can’t wait to strength train on a regular basis again. And this time, I’m going to be consistent, unlike the last round where I really only did weeks 1-4.

8. I can’t wait for all my favorite shows to come back….in a month. Grrrr.

9. College football starts this weekend. GO DAWGS!!!

10. I know I am stating the obvious, but Sunday is September 1st. SEPTEMBER. When did that happen?

And with that, I’ll stop with this week’s random musings. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

10 Random Thoughts From My Long Walk

written by Parita 7 Comments

WARNING: This is one of those all over the place and super random type of posts!

I decided to go for a long walk after work yesterday. I was looking to shake up my normal routine and a walk seemed like the perfect way to do so. The original plan was to listen to Jillian Michaels’ newest podcast, but I forgot my headphones at home and was too lazy to go back and get them. So with nothing to distract me, I was left to my own devices.

With that being said, I present to you the randomness that occupied my headspace last night (in no particular order)…

1. Today is my half birthday, which means I turn the big 3-0 is in exactly six months. And surprisingly, I’m really excited to kick off a new decade – hellllloooo 30s!

2. If all goes according to plan, we will be attending 5 weddings within the first 6 months of 2014. I better start saving up vacation days now…well, after our India trip.

3. India. I’m excited and nervous. Excited to see my grandparents/other family members and a part of the country I have yet to visit. Nervous because of the heat and bugs. I’m a spoiled brat.

4. I’m happy for Will and Kate, but I was kind of hoping the Royal Baby would be a girl.

5. Now that it’s a baby boy, I really hope they don’t name him George. It’s just not a very modern prince-like name IMO.

6. As exciting as it was to see Jesse and the Rippers reunited on Jimmy Kimmel, I can’t seem to get the Full House theme song out of my head now. And I’m really glad Vishnu didn’t notice my eyes well up with tears when they sang that particular song. I never would have heard the end of it. I miss the 90s!

7. I wish I had just worked out before work. Why was I so tired and slow moving this morning? And why is it becoming a trend? Oh yeah, it’s because I don’t go to sleep when I should. Instead, I stay up wasting time on the internet and/or watching episodes of Chopped. That needs to change ASAP, especially because I love and value my sleep. Ok, “Operation Sleep” starts….tonight!

8. Will I ever be able to make Indian flatbread the way my mom does? Or will it always taste like a frisbee (Vishnu’s words)? Maybe I should go buy a few packages of naan from Costco as back up.  And wait a minute.  How can Vishnu make that comparison when I’m pretty sure he’s never tasted a frisbee?

9. Where should we take Aek out to eat this weekend? Rocco’s tacos and Yard Bird for sure. Man, we really don’t like getting out of our restaurant comfort zone. But in our defense, the food at RT and YB is delicious.

10. Is it Friday yet?!

I know what y’all are thinking, “Is this how she really thinks and is she really this random?!” Yes and yes.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

So tell me, what random thoughts have been floating through your head lately?
