14 of My Favorite Love Quotes Just in Time for Valentine’s Day

written by Parita 10 Comments

Valentine’s Day.  Not a big deal in the MIS household.  Vishnu’s philosophy has always been that we should show and celebrate our love all the time. More than that, he believes Valentine’s Day is a Hallmark holiday aimed to sucker people into spending $$$.

When we first started dating all those years ago, I was a little offended that he didn’t want to celebrate with me.  But when he explained his reasoning, I was on board…albeit a little hesitantly at first!

So while we won’t be celebrating with a fancy dinner out or flowers and chocolates, I can’t help but share my favorite love quotes with you all today. I’m still very much a romantic at heart and always will be!

Enjoy and happy love day/weekend, y’all!

Red love sign stacked
1. “The heart has reasons that reason does not understand.” – Jacques Benigne Bossuel

2. “Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.” – Unknown

3. “The minute I heard my first love story,
I started looking for you, not knowing how blind that was.
Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere.
They’re in each other all along.”
–      Rumi

4. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

5. “Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real lovers to be silly.” – Rose Franken

6. “We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” – Dr. Seuss

7. “As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.” – John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

8. “Even
After
All this time
The Sun never says to the Earth,
“You owe me.”
Look
What happens
With a love like that,
It lights the whole sky.
–     Hafiz

9. “I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart for so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.” – A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

10. “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever.”     – A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

11. “Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” – Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights

12. “Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be.” – Robert Browning

13. “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.” – A.A. Milne

14. “If you love something, love it completely, cherish it, say it, but most importantly, show it. Life is finite and fragile, and just because something is there one day, it might not be the next. Never take that for granted. Say what you need to say, then say a little more. Say too much. Show too much. Love too much. Everything is temporary but love. Love outlives us all.” – R.Queen

Hi, my name is Parita and I have a problem.  An inspirational/motivational quotes problem.  In fact, over the past few weeks, I’ve been collecting quotes and pictures on my phone, and they have officially taken over my photo feed.  Send help!

In the meantime, I thought I would share some of my favorites.  A little Monday inspiration if you will!

I’m An Inspirational Message Junkie

written by Parita 4 Comments

Happpppy Friday!

People who know me in real life or even those who read my blog know that I am an inspirational message junkie.  I. Can’t. Get. Enough.  Email subscriptions, apps, books, calendars – you name it, I have it.

Recently, I’ve come across a few messages that were extra special for one reason or another.  Some came with just the right message at just the right time.  Some were directly related to recent conversations with friends.  And some were simply beautiful on their own.

And instead of keeping these pieces of inspiration to myself, I thought I would share.  Put another way – I’m an inspirational message junkie that loves to share what she finds with anyone who will listen!

Notes from the Universe

Everything in your life, right now, Parita, is awesome. Everything is in its right place, under grace, and whether or not this makes perfect sense yet, one day it will. And the time swiftly approaches when you’ll be exceedingly grateful for all that has brought you to this day and contributed to who you’ve become, because it is exactly that person who is now poised to live as you have always dreamed you would one day live.

Happy Friday,
The Universe

I believe I got this from the Purpose Fairy Facebook page.

The Language of Letting Go (a paid app that shares daily messages/lessons)

We don’t have to question every occurrence to see how it fits into the plan.  The plan – the awareness, the insight, the potential for personal growth – will reveal itself to us.  Perhaps the lesson is to learn to solve our problems without always knowing their significance.  Perhaps the lesson is to trust ourselves to live and experience life.

Goodreads quotes of the day

Everybody talks about wanting to change things and help and fix, but ultimately all you can do is fix yourself. And that’s a lot. Because if you can fix yourself, it has a ripple effect. Rob Reiner

I know of a cure for everything: salt water…in one way or the other. Sweat, or tears, or the salt sea.
Karen Blixen

What’s a great inspirational message you’ve heard/read lately?

Little Bits of Inspiration

written by Parita 7 Comments

As readers of my blog, you all know that I love to inspire and to be inspired.

Who am I kidding…I’m really just one big cheese ball!

Either way, this week has been filled with little bits of inspiration that have transpired from a few different places. The first is a quote I found in one of my special Gmail folders. My cousin sent it to me a few years ago, and when I reread the quote, it made me feel like anything is possible as long as you keep moving forward. The next is a message from theUniverse about not letting any one thing define you. Powerful stuff! And finally, the last one is a story my mom forwarded to me yesterday. She’s not one of those annoying people who forward everything that comes their way. She picks and chooses who receives what, so I knew this would be good. And it was. The story is about the power of letting your mind do its own thing instead of muddying the waters (so to speak).

I hope at least one of these inspires you in some way!

A quote from my cousin

It’s in the difficult times that we’re growing and you can’t just rebuke everything hard. We’ve got to endure it and fight the good fight of faith and pass the test.

Joel Osten

A message from the Universe

Nobody, Parita, is who they are based upon one decision, one day, one path, one chance, one relationship, or one anything else.

Every day is brand new and opportunity never stops knocking.

Who’s there?
The Universe

A story from my mom

Buddha was traveling with a few of his followers. While they were passing a lake, Buddha told one of his disciples, “I am thirsty. Do please get me some water from the lake.”

The disciple walked up to the lake. At that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy and turbid. The disciple thought, “How can I give this muddy water to Buddha to drink?”  So he came back and told Buddha, “The water in there is very muddy. I don’t think it is fit to drink.”

After about half an hour, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back to the lake. The disciple went back, and found that the water was still muddy.

He returned and informed Buddha about the same. After sometime, Buddha asked the same disciple to go back. This time, the disciple found the mud had settled down, and the water was clean and clear. So he collected some water in a pot and brought it to Buddha. Buddha looked at the water, and then he looked up at the disciple and said, “See what you did to make the water clean. You let it be, the mud settled down on its own, and now you have clear water.

Your mind is like that too! When it is disturbed, just let it be. Give it a little time. It will settle down on its own. You don’t have to put in any effort to calm it down. It will happen. It is effortless.”

Have a wonderful Friday and an even better weekend!

Walk and Talk

written by Parita 9 Comments

Today’s post was meant to be about phase 4 of Best Body Bootcamp (registration for the next round is open now!).  However, I haven’t had the time to sit down and gather my thoughts.  Work was a busier than usual this week.  I’m so looking forward to the holiday on Monday.  Woo!

I did, however, have the opportunity to go on a 3 mile walk with my colleague Bhusha.  This was my first time walking in this particular area at night (no worries, the path is well lit), and it was absolutely beautiful.  We are so blessed.

Anyway, during our walk, Bhusha and I talked a lot about taking risks, being honest about what makes you happy, trusting that [right now] you are exactly where you are supposed to be, etc.  At the end of our walk, I thanked her for being my “therapist.”  Ha!

I wish y’all could have joined us for our deep conversation.  But since that goes beyond the realm of possibility, I thought I would share the following messages with the hopes that they evoke deep thoughts/emotions for you.  In fact, each of these messages were touched upon during our walk, so in a way, y’all were with us (just 12 hours later)!

Have a beautiful Friday!

Over Milk and Cookies

written by Parita 13 Comments

Last Friday, Dixya wrote about having a virtual coffee date with her readers.  It was so creative and fun to read.  I felt like I was sitting across the table chatting with her.  I loved her idea so much that I thought I would do something similar.  However, instead of chatting over coffee, we’d enjoy milk and cookies (come on, channel your inner five year old with me).

As we dunked our delicious chocolate chip cookies in milk and devoured them one bite at a time, we’d talk and talk and talk.  And by the end of our time together, we’d be best friends…forever!

If this cookie date were to happen today, I’d have a few things to tell you…

First, I’d tell you that I’m super excited about our move (tomorrow is the big day!).  Then, in the same breath, I’d tell you that I’m also super stressed because Vishnu and I have A LOT left to do.  We’ll probably be packing right until the movers arrive.  Oh well, it will get done…because it has to get done.

Next, I’d completely change gears and tell you about my new favorite lip product – the CoverGirl Queen Collection Jumbo Gloss Balm.  You’d hear about how amazing it is – rich color, creamy texture, and fantastic coverage (it’s not a stain, but it does leave my lips lightly colored).  I’d then tell you to go get the Jammin Gem shade.  It’s beautiful!

I’d then pull out my iPhone so that we could watch my favorite cute little kid video of all time.  We’d watch it several times…she’s that cute!

And finally, before we got up to refill on more milk and cookies, I’d share the following quote with you.  My sister’s professor shared it with her class during a lecture on eating disorders.  She really liked it, so she sent it to me!

Scales only have the power which we bestow upon them.
In reality, a scale is just a small household item made of metal & springs & dials.
A scale is a toaster is a blender is an electric toothbrush is a weed whacker.
Imagine if I said, "My self-worth is determined by the toaster."Sounds pretty weird, eh?
Or "I’m fat, the lawnmower said so!"
Or "I have to check with the blender to see if I like myself today."
The power only comes in when we choose to hand all of ours over to an inanimate object.

How true, right?

I told you I’m a talker!  No worries because it’s your turn next…

What would you tell me about if we had the chance to chat over milk and cookies?

Back to the Grind

written by Parita 11 Comments

First and foremost, I hope y’all had an amazing Thanksgiving holiday full of all the things and people you love!  It’s hard to believe that 2013 is right around the corner.  Where does the time go?

Well, I’m back in Florida and back to the grind.  For some reason, the transition back has been harder than usual.  I miss my family a lot!  Good thing I’ll be seeing them again for Christmas when Vishnu and I head back to Georgia.  Very much looking forward to that.

I figure most of you are having a hard time getting back into the swing of things as well, so I thought I would share some random/inspirational/funny/silly things to make your day a little brighter!

A little more serious to start off with (LOVE this quote)…

To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.
Arundhati Roy

Moving onto some funny things I found…

Funny Friendship Ecard: I appreciate your friendship so much that if we ever got into a fist fight I'd totally try my best to avoid your face.

Funny Birthday Ecard: May you live to be so old that your driving terrifies people.

And finally, a funny story from Saturday night…

After Vishnu picked me up from the airport, we headed to Lime Fresh for dinner.  I ordered my usual vegetarian taco salad and picked out what I thought were the three salsas I usually get.  Before digging into my salad, I poured on all three salsas.  With the first bite I was reaching for water and telling Vishnu that they put something spicy in my salad.  After a few more bites I declared that I couldn’t eat anymore.  Vishnu took one look at the empty salsa containers and asked if I was sure I didn’t take the habanero salsa by accident.  Umm…that’s EXACTLY what I did.  In my defense, it looked just like the salsa verde!  When one of the servers came by and asked if everything was ok, I explained my stupid mistake.  To my surprise, she brought me another salad.  Talk about excellent customer service.  It wasn’t even the restaurant’s fault!  Well, I learned my lesson the hard way (my stomach was on fire the rest of the night).  Never again will I even go near the habanero salsa!

Hope one of these made you smile!  Have a great Monday. Smile
