The title of this post describes the past couple of weeks perfectly!

Whirlwind (went by so fast!), unproductive (from a work perspective) and fun (so fun)!

A past version of me would’ve panicked at the thought of not working as much or even doing as much as usual, but the 2024 version of me has been so happy to spend lots of quality time with my kids and taking their lead as much as possible.

Let’s rewind to the Friday after school ended. Kaiden and I dropped Mila off at school and ran a bunch of errands. I got a new basil plant, and he got a new pair of sneakers for the summer.

On Saturday, I dropped both kids off at my parents house for a couple of nights so Vishnu and I could get a bunch of stuff done around the house — and have some fun! We definitely cleaned out a lot, mostly in the garage, but we also went to a new Persian restaurant near us and then axe throwing with my sister and BIL. Sunday followed a similar pattern. We cleaned all day and then went out for sushi and ice cream in the evening.

I picked the kids up on Monday, and the rest of the week was a lot like the previous Friday. On the days we were mostly home, Kaiden had a little routine I outlined for him – Kumon, reading, writing, play time, some TV time, etc. There were a couple of days where we were out or had other things going on so I wasn’t so exact with everything. Kumon is always a must though (much to K’s dismay!).

I focused on work things – mainly writing, a few calls, and emails – when I could squeeze them in. Not the way I like to work, but I made an exception last week because my priority was to make the most of my time at home with K.

From our hiking adventure this weekend!

I’ve been feeling this urge to really soak in my kids lately because I realize our days where they WANT to spend time with us are closing in. I know it’s not as dire as I’m making it out to be, but before we know it, they’ll want to do things on their own or with friends, and I respect that. I never want to hold them back, and at the same time, I want to use up all the time I have with them just us! Motherhood is something, I tell you!

Yesterday was my first full day of work in over a week, and man did I get a lot done. I think I had half my to do list crossed off by 10 am.

And that, my friends, is how life ebbs and flows over here. Some days are ultra productive while others lean more on the side of whimsical and fun. And I’m learning that both are ok and both are necessary. I’m so proud of the life Vishnu and I have built, and I need to be better about embracing the privileges that I have instead of focus on what I should be doing based on someone else’s standards. It’s a work in progress for me, but we are progressing!

Here’s to a semi-productive week ahead – I’m volunteering at K’s camp all day tomorrow, I have an early morning in person meeting on Thursday followed by a hair appointment to (hopefully) fix my color, and K and I are accompanying my mom to a meeting on Friday.

I’m trying to ‘be where my feet are’ and I hope you do the same! Have a great rest of your week, my friends!
