I have a very hard time when it comes to ‘selling’ myself and Awarify. I don’t like the idea of selling myself. I don’t like coming from a selling angle. It just feels icky.
I was talking to my good friend and Momsanity podcast co-host Amy about this one day, and she gave me the reframe I needed. She said (something like), “Well, if selling doesn’t sit right with you, think of it as serving. At the end of the day, without talking to people about what you do, how you do it, and why, you can’t serve anyone, which is what you want to do.”
Her words hit me hard. She was absolutely right. Coaching is not one of those things that you sell. It’s about having a conversation. It’s about assessing fit. It’s about serving.
Serving to me feels like relationship building. It feels like really getting to know someone and what their needs/wants are. It’s about slowing down. It’s about putting aside $$$ financial metrics and focusing on more human ones.
Of course, I’m in a very privileged place. I can think about serving instead of selling because my family’s livelihood doesn’t depend on Awarify.
But knowing myself, if I didn’t shift my focus, I would most definitely be back in a corporate job right now.
And that…is NOT where I want to be right now!
So serving it is!
