The Biggest Motherhood Secret Just in Time for Mother’s Day

written by Parita Leave a Comment

Mother’s Day is this weekend!  I’ve always loved celebrating my own mom on this special holiday, and now it’s my turn.  We honestly don’t have big plans.  In fact, I told Vishnu I wanted to try a new brunch place, spend lots of time with him and K, and maybeeee squeeze in a few hours of Par time on Saturday.  That’s it.  That’s all I want this year!

Speaking of Mother’s Day, I can’t help but reflect on my almost YEAR of being Kaiden’s mama.  So many lessons, so much growth, so much change, but most importantly, so much LOVE!  It’s been quite the ride – lots and lots of ups and a few downs (mostly in the form of sicknesses).

The other day, I was reflecting on how I much I’ve personally changed as a person in the past 10+ months.  It’s hard to put into words.  For one thing, I’m so much more confident.  By no means do I have a handle on motherhood, but I’m not doubting myself every step of the way like I used to.

I used to think that everyone but me had it together.  That everyone else knew exactly what to do, how to react, etc.  In my mind, everyone else left the hospital with a ‘how-to’ manual, while V and I left with a baby and a ‘good luck!’

But here’s the thing.  Here’s the biggest motherhood secret of them all…

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THEY’RE DOING!  We’re all winging it!  Every. Single. One. Of. Us.

It really is like folding a fitted sheet.  No one really knows how.  And those who do, probably spent way too much time trying to figure out how.  Don’t nobody got time for that!!!

Have a great weekend!  And Happy Mother’s Day. 🙂

P.S. I wrote about five other personal secrets I uncovered during my early days of motherhood over on The South Asian Buzz.  Check it out!
