A Milk and Cookies Date [5]

written by Parita 12 Comments

This milk and cookies date is very much needed, so thank you for joining me!  So much has happened since the last time we talked.  Of course, there was my sister’s wedding (!) which was absolutely amazing.  And now it’s time to M-O-V-E!  This may surprise many of you given my type-A nature, but we are totally slacking on the packing part of the moving equation.  Like big time!  But we’ll get to that in our catch-up…

So with that, let’s have some milk and cookies…

If were having milk and cookies!

I’m certain the Orlando attack is on both of our minds.  It’s all just so sad and senseless.  I don’t think I’ll ever be able to wrap my head around how someone could hurt so many innocent people.  When something horrific like this happens, my go-to emotions are anger and sadness.  And while this is no different, I’m trying my best to focus on the stories about the helpers.  Those who put their lives on the line to save as many people as possible. The helpers give me hope that no matter how bad it gets, the goodness of humanity will ALWAYS shine brighter than the hatred and intolerance of a few.

And because we’re choosing to focus on the good, we’d continue on with general life updates.

I’d tell you about Vishnu’s intern graduation this past weekend and how it was a lot of fun hanging out with everyone one last time.  It’s so bittersweet because while Vishnu’s moving on to his chosen field and taking his career forward, he’s made so many good friends in this short time.  I keep reminding him that it’s not ‘goodbye’ but rather, ‘see you soon!’

Looking back on it all, this year has been easier than I initially thought it would be.  First of all, the past 12 months feel like the came and went in a flash…seriously!  Also, I’ve seen Vishnu grow so much from an uncertain doctor to someone who really owns his profession and his knowledge. Seeing that change and evolution was a true highlight for me!

Next, you’d ask me about how the packing is going.  To that I would respond with an ‘ummm’ because it hasn’t gone very far.  Our apartment is a disaster, but we’ll get there eventually…we have to!  Over the weekend, I kept saying the word ‘pack’ and Vishnu kept saying the words ‘later’ and ‘relax.’  That brings us to today and now I’m anything but relaxed, but I’m not letting it stress me out too much.  It’ll all get done, and we’ll be in Chicago before we know it!  Woo-sah!

We’d then move on to the topic of fitness because I’m sick of talking about this damn move!  I’d tell you that I’m trying to move as much as possible.  I wouldn’t call a lot of what I do a full-blown workout, but I do what I can when I can.  Again, I’m trying not to stress about things that don’t really matter right now.  While it would be wonderful to fit in a 45 minute workout every day, I don’t always have the time or energy.  I’m really trying hard to stick to a “do the best you can every day and don’t sweat the small stuff” mantra.  So far, so good!

Food and exercise go hand in hand, so we would of course talk about that next.  I’d tell you that this is the week of eating whatever we have on hand (eggs, oatmeal, frozen food, etc.).  We did, however, have an amazing dining experience at Bern’s Steakhouse last week.  It was the perfect celebratory meal (5 year engagement anniversary, the end of intern year, and the end to FL living).  We started with soup and salad (one of the best Vishnu’s ever had!).  Then we moved on to some pretty fabulous entrees (fish for Vishnu, a perfectly composed vegetarian dish for me, and truffle mac n’ cheese to share!).  We ended our meal with music, coffee, and a peanut butter truffle dessert.  You guys…it was perfection!  I love that my husband loves food as much as I do!  It makes for some fun adventures. 🙂

I know this was somewhat of a short date!  Hopefully I’ll have more exciting updates to share next month.  Before we part ways, I’d warn you that I may disappear again for a bit until we’re a little more settled in Chicago.  But as always, I’ll try my best to keep up with some of my social feeds (Facebook, Instagram, and/or Snapchat (username – myinnershakti)).

Until next time…oh and wish us luck on the M-O-V-E!!

Tell me what you’ve been up to!

Good luck with your move. You look so beautiful in your photo!
Fitting in fitness is the best we can do. I’m sure it will all fall into place when you’re settled.

It sounds like you guys are busy!! I’m not jealous of the packing/moving process. That’s a tough one! My parents are actually in the process of selling their house in Ohio and moving here to Virginia so we’ve been doing lots of planning and packing lately!

I’m just catching up… your sister looked so pretty! And you look stunning as usual!

Orlando hit me hard. We were there at the club just last fall. I just can’t fathom how someone can be so cruel.

As fun as moving might be, I’m with you about packing- SO overwhelming. The days leading up may be stressful as ever but you will get it done – everything has a way of falling into place :)! I love your last line about Orlando and humanity outshining hatred- definitely a nice way to see the silver lining, even if it’s minuscule.

Best of luck! You probably know I am the exact same way during a move, but it does always get done. Your celebration dinner sounds AMAZING. I love nights like that.
Lately seems crazy for us too, but for unknown reasons. Travel I guess. I’m excited for (hopefully) a few weeks or normalcy and then our road trip to New England at the end of the month!

So exciting about your move soon! I’m sure you’re excited to be so close to your sister, too. BTW, congrats to your sister and new BIL! Their day looked magical. Whereabouts in Chicago are you guys staying? You don’t have to say, of course, but I’ll be coming back to the Chi in July! Would love to meet up while I’m there! <3 xoxo

Good luck on your new adventure and to Vishnu.
The Orlando crime was so senseless, I don’t get how someone can hurt another human being. So sad.
