Paris, Beirut, Baghdad, Tunisia, Syria…everywhere. Pain and suffering. Innocent lives being taken. Families torn apart. Now more than ever I wish there was a magic button we could press to make everything better. But I know we’re far from finding that button.
As I was watching the news on Friday night, I felt so much hate in my heart for the people who are causing this pain. But hate isn’t the answer. I know that. I have no concrete proof that the opposite is working either. However, the more I think about it, the more I realize that the only thing we can do that has a chance of healing and helping is to send love, peace, and light to those who need it.
So that’s what I’m choosing…to put as much love and strength and positive energy into the world as possible.
It feels a bit strange to go into a weekend recap, but one of the other things I thought a lot about is how we can’t stop living, especially when senseless things like this happen. In fact, we need to live more and show those who are trying to tear us down that they won’t succeed. Love and light will always overcome evil and darkness.
So with that in mind, here’s how our low key weekend went…
I spent Friday evening glued to the TV while waiting for Vishnu to get home.
Saturday was different. I decided to get out of the house…to run errands but still…
After dropping Vishnu off at work, I came home and resisted the urge to crawl back in to bed. Instead, I did an old school Jillian Michaels’ workout – No More Trouble Zones. Just as tough as I remember it!
I then showered, ate breakfast, and headed to Trader Joe’s for some early morning grocery shopping action. I was in and out in a flash because apparently St. Pete residents aren’t early morning people! Before heading home, I made two more pit stops at Target (didn’t buy a single thing!) and the dry cleaners.
And then it was time to get my hair cut. You guys, I had almost four inches chopped off!
Straight hair/no makeup
Curled hair/makeup
Love the length and the lighter feel. It’s exactly what I wanted!
I had one final errand to run before calling it a day. The library! I finally went and got a library card because that’s the only way I can use Overdrive. Free books here I come!
The rest of the day was spent working on blog stuff, doing a little food prep, etc.
The evening plan was to pick up Vishnu from work and head to dinner somewhere. Unfortunately, he didn’t get done until 9:30 pm. I could’ve easily made us a couple of salads or something, but because I was craving pizza in a big way, I asked if he wanted to grab a few slices from a local pizza place. Pizza > salads so he was obviously down!
Late night pizza always tastes good…yum!
That brings me to Sunday. Vishnu had a little work to finish up, and I had my usual cleaning, laundry, miscellaneous stuff routine to get through. But other than that, we caught up on last week’s episode of How to Get Away with Murder –> If you don’t watch this show, you need to get on the crazy train and catch up. It’s insane! Our Sunday also included football (mostly Vishnu), a long walk (me), Diwali and Indian New Year phone calls with various family members, etc.
Well, sending all of you LOTS of love and strength as we start a new week.
P.S. Thank you so much for the positive comments about the blog redesign. I’m so in love! It’s exactly what I was hoping for and more. If you’re looking to do something similar, I HIGHLY recommend Laura from Pixel Me Designs. She’s a design genius. Can’t say enough good things about her and her work!
Dude your blog is looking GREAT- so neat…I love it :)! The Paris attacks & attacks around the world in general are so sad but you’re right- hate isn’t going to fix the problem! I need to watch last week’s episode of How To Get Away With Murder- this season is getting too good!

I think we just have to keep putting love out there and not being afraid. I heard an interview on NPR this morning and a French woman said something to the effect of: we can’t be alone, we can’t be scared, we can’t cower as individuals. We have to be together, we need to be a community and we need to come together. She sums it up well. We have to stick together. We have to unite. We can’t be afraid of the people who want us to be afraid.

OMG talk about crazy train. I always think I know what’s going to happen on that show and then I’m always wrong haha. I think the show should be two hours that’s how addicted to it I am.

This season started out just meh for me and now I’m addicted!! It’s just so crazy good!
It’s truly heartbreaking, and terrifying, what is going on. But you’re right, the only way to get through it is to be as positive as possible and keep living in the light. Beautiful words, Parita. And beautiful hair! Love it!!

Sounds like a great low-key weekend, especially given the events that took place. I’m so disappointed to see that kind of hatred and such in the world. I know it’s easy to say “I wish for world peace” but man oh man, I wish for world peace! If people could set aside their extremities for religious beliefs and we could live in a world with no religion, it might make things better…?? I always wonder that. Or, would we find something new to lash out at people with, so it’s a never ending cycle? My husband was so numbed by everything and didn’t react as emotionally as I did. He’s such a realist though. Hundreds of people are dying all over the world every single day and we never hear about it. But a well-developed city like Paris gets this, and we all react like crazy! Sigh. It just hurts my heart 🙁
On happier thoughts: your hair looks fabulous!! 🙂
My heart breaks every day with all that’s happening in the world.
My heart sinks every time something tragic and senseless happens anywhere in the world. But you are right in that we have to go on and live our lives and keep putting love out there. I don’t see another alternative. Thank you for sharing your weekend. It sounds so relaxing. I love your hair – you are gorgeous with straight AND curly hair, makeup AND no makeup! <3

There really is no other alternative, you’re absolutely right.
And thank you so much. That’s so nice of you to say!
Seriously loving the design!!! It’s so you! (Does that make sense lol?)
As bad the attacks were, I think hiding away or reclusing ourselves is only feeding to their fear mongering. PS- You accomplished a tonne before noon on Saturday. Inspire me!

And would love to hear your thoughts! I have some pretty unconventional thoughts about religion as well. Just not sure if my blog is the right platform to share…maybe in the future!
I recently got a library card too and it made me really happy! I accidentally pulled it out instead of my ID the other day, oops! Your hair looks great. All the terrible stuff going on in the world makes me feel so helpless, but you’re right, life must go on.

And I feel helpless too. I wish there was something we could do to make the pain go away…
I love the new blog design. Your hair looks fantastic too. The world is very troubled, but hopefully love will prevail.
Thank you x 2, C!
