I always find the end of the year to be a bit bittersweet. I hate that the holiday season and all the hype it comes with is over. But I love thinking about the new year and everything it will bring with it. A double edged sword I tell you!
For us, the end of 2014 has been pretty relaxing. The only downside to our Miami staycation is that I didn’t see my parents at all. Other than that, Vishnu and I have laid low and spent good quality time together.
Over the last few days, we…
- Watched the entire Bourne trilogy. Amazing movies by the way.
- Hosted Christmas Eve dinner at our apartment and had a few friends over. Since Vishnu didn’t get his traditional Thanksgiving meal this year, we decided to put a little Turkey Day spin on the menu. I made mac n’ cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted mushrooms, salad, and black bean brownies. Vishnu made lemon and herb stuffed chicken breasts. SO good!
- Spent Christmas Day with our friend Rohit and his parents. His sweet mom even catered to my dairy-free diet. She made a couple of delicious dips, rolls filled with faux chicken and veggies, fresh garlic bread, and a veggie casserole. Aside from eating a ton, we watched The Interview. Apparently you can rent it on YouTube. My take? It was ok. James Franco annoys me (SO MUCH!), and to be honest, I still don’t know what to make of the premise and subsequent aftermath.
- Did some post-Christmas shopping. The mall wasn’t as crowded as we thought it would be…and the deals weren’t as great as we hoped for them to be. I’m hoping for better sales in January!
And now, my sister and Adarsh (her boyfriend) are visiting through the end of the week! We have an Everglades tour and a sailing excursion on the agenda along with low-key NYE plans.
Happy Monday!
Sounds like a fantastic Christmas if you ask me! We did the same: laid low. My parents are in India until April so we didn’t see them. His family doesn’t really get together for Christmas (they’re more a Thanksgiving family) and my sister, BIL and nephew were in MN with his family. I watched a lot of Scandal, played a lot of The Sims, read a lot and finished some books, worked out a LOT (even for me lol) and cooked a little. It was nice! Your NYE plans sound great too, especially if you get to spend it with your sister!
That sounds like a great way to spend the holidays! Did you guys do anything fun for NYE?
It sounds like you guys had a nice relaxing Christmas! Your feast sounds delicious 🙂 And I’m the same way, i’m sad holiday festivities are over but I’m totally excited about a new year!
Happy New Year, Liz! Not sure why but I’m more excited about 2015 than I have been about any other year. Hopefully that means something good!
Not being with family for the holidays can be hard, but staycations are the best! Sounds like you guys had a great holiday. Enjoy your visitors!

Thanks, Kacy! Happy New Year!
Definitely a double edged sword- But I’m excited for the New Year.
After all the travel you did this year, I think a relaxing quieter one sounds perfect for ya! And what a good egg letting Vishnu have chicken 😉
