Remember how I said one of my goals for this year is to stay present and take things day by day? Well, I’m actually doing something about it! Actually, I am doing two things about it.
1. I signed up for a simple happiness challenge called 100 happy days. When my friend Ankita emailed me about it and said that she was signing up, I couldn’t resist.
The idea of the challenge is to take a picture of something that makes you happy every day for 100 days. You then select a way to share your pictures (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email, etc.), tag them with the #100happydays hashtag or a private one you create yourself, and watch the magic happen! And if nothing else, at the end of the 100 days, you have a collection of happy pictures to look back on!
I’ll be sharing my pictures via Instagram @myinnershakti, so feel free to follow along. And if you decide to participate, let me know how I can follow along on your happiness journey as well.
2. Vishnu and I resurrected our Thankful Thoughts journal on January 1st and are doing a fairly good job of documenting three small things that we’re thankful for each day. Our goal (ok fine…MY goal) is to keep up with this for the entire year so that at the end of 2014 we have a long list of all the wonderful blessings in our lives.
Here are some of my favorites so far…
Parita – friendship, health, my hubby, coming home for lunch every day, cards against humanity, my family, having a TJs near us, a husband who tells it like it is, the nice man that held the elevator for me.
Vishnu – Par’s pep talks, chance to be a doctor, walking distance to grocery store, life challenges, football Sundays, a comfy bed, warm climate during the winter, weekends off.
Personally, the things that make me happy are the things I’m thankful for, so I think these two activities will help me focus on all the good “stuff” I have going on right NOW. Not tomorrow, not a year from now, but NOW.
And like someone once told me, there’s nothing like a little gratitude to keep you grounded.
So tell me, are you going to participate in the #100happydays challenge?! What’s your favorite way to practice gratitude?
Happy Monday, Par and V! <3 Hope you two had a lovely weekend. I love the idea of the Thankful Thoughts journal. How creative and what a great way to look back on your year, too!! I am also loving this #100happydays idea. I think I might need to do this! I think I'll start today! 🙂 I saw your pic about it yesterday so I'll jump on today! <3

LOL! Thanks, Davida!
Love this! I’m smitten by the idea of taking a picture of something awesome everyday, but sometimes I’m just too lazy to snap a shot, so I’ve been keeping track of good memories by writing them down on a piece of paper and tossing them in a memory jar instead. 365 days of good memories is what I’m going for 😀

I remember reading your post about the memory jar. Great idea!! Such a wonderful gift to yourself!
i love the idea of #100happydays..would love to join and follow along. I try to think about things that made me smile or something I am grateful for before going to bed but that does not happen everyday..I am sure something like this will be very helpful as a reminder.

What a great idea- And I never knew Vishnu was studying to be a doctor- Damn why did I enter the blog world so late! Wait, is he studying or is he already a doctor?
The 100 day challenge sounds great and one which you can keep accountable- I’ll definitely follow you through with it on insta!

V’s a third year med student. About 1.5 years to go of school and then he’s a doc 🙂
Great resolution for the New Year! Something I have been wanting to do is on January 1st, you put a jar on your kitchen counter with a post it pad on the side. When your husband/family member/friend does something nice for you, they made you laugh really hard or you just shared a wonderful memory, you write it down on the note and fold it up. Put it in the jar. At the end of the year you remember great things about your loved ones that you would normally forget after months!
I forgot to do it this year, but 2015 will be the year. 🙂

Love that idea. I think my only problem would be remembering to write down the memory!
my niece is actually doing this and told me about it. I feel like i sort of do this by posting these pics on facebook, usually dessert or something that makes me happy. i guess I could pay more attention and do this right. Great idea P!
