My first Pretty Muddy event was a fun success!  We didn’t intend to set any records, but Robin and I finished the 5k race, including obstacles and wait time, in under 30 minutes (I think it was 25/26 minutes).  We were also the first finishers in our wave!

Quite the dynamic duo!

Not quite sure how I managed to do so well considering I was in travel mode for 17 hours yesterday, got home at 11:00 pm, went to bed at midnight, and woke up at 6:30 am.  I think it was the clubby music at the event that kept me going!

Anyways, Robin, Andy, Vishnu, and I drove to the race together.  The boys kept telling us to get super muddy because that’s the only way to do a race like this.  Riiiight!  Our conversation quickly turned into a discussion about how we can all participate in an adventure run together.  Dun, dun, dun…enter the Tough Mudder.  I’m not sure if we’re definitely going to do it but I was told that if one person signs up we all have to sign up.  I’m scared!

We got to the event 45 minutes before our start time, which meant that we had ample time to pick up our race numbers, go to the restroom, and people watch for a little bit.  And people were dressed to impress – lots of tutus and Santa hats!  We even saw a group of women dressed as Mud Virgins!  As I mentioned in my last post, Robin and I were Pink Panthers.  I guess our idea didn’t come across the way we wanted but it was still fun to wear matching outfits!  Next year we’re going to be more creative and go all out!

The run itself was tons of fun.  There were about seven obstacles in total, and while some were more challenging than others, all of them were doable.  Lots of climbing and trudging through mud!

My favorite was the big slide with a mud pit at the bottom!  But nothing beat the mud pit at the finish line.  And our husbands were there to catch the big finale!  Here is the progression of pictures that captures the muddy action.

For those of you who will one day participate in an event like this, listen up.  Make sure you go with the butt in the air strategy when making your way through the mud pits (like Robin).  Do not get on all fours (like me).  Trust me – this one thing makes a huge difference.

The event was designed around the organization’s mission of women having fun with fitness and was also incredibly organized.  All in all, Robin and I had an absolute blast and can’t wait to participate again next year!

If there’s a Pretty Muddy event coming to your city in 2014, I highly recommend you get a group of your girlfriends together and participate.  You won’t regret it!

After the race, I came home and showered for what felt like half a day!  Ha!

Later in the evening I headed down to my friend Shelly’s place for a small holiday party that included a cookie exchange element.  It was so nice to meet her friends and get to know more people in the area.  I made Brittany’s Vegan Pumpkin Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies, and they were a huge hit!  People could not believe they were vegan and somewhat healthy.

In other news, my cousin Jash is married!  My sister was texting me pictures during the ceremony, so I felt like I was there…well, almost.  So happy for Jash and his new beautiful wife!

This was actually a very eventful weekend for my dad’s side of the family.  I got a text early this morning that my other cousin and his wife had their baby boy…little Aiden!  He’s soooo cute, and I can’t wait to meet him!

Well, that’s all I have.  Have a great Monday!

  1. That looks like such a fun race! I was going to sign up for tough mudder with some mates here…until I heard getting electrocuted is part of the race. No dice!

Congrats on all the family happenings too- Hope Dad’s doing well!
