Looking back on the weekend, I feel like it was both relaxing and productive. A little mish mash of this and that.
Friday evening, Vishnu and I went to Running Wild so that I could buy a new pair of running shoes. I purchased my last pair , Mizuno Wave Inspire 8, over two years ago. Long overdue, I know! I tried on a number of different shoes that are similar to the Mizunos, and ultimately decided on the the Saucony ProGrid Ride 5.
I put my new kicks to the test with a 3.5 mile run on Saturday morning. Although it’s too early to tell, I think this pair is going to work out well. They felt light and provided great support for my high arches.
The original Friday night plan was to come home, make a simple dinner, and watch a movie. As we were heading home from Running Wild, I called my mom and she offered an alternative idea – date night out! That sounded really good to both me and Vishnu, so we ditched our plans and headed to Las Olas for dinner at Rocco’s Tacos (Mexican again!). Neither of us had eaten here before, but my friend Khusbu loves this place and has nothing but good things to say. We took her word for it and were glad we did. While I don’t have any pictures to prove it (really bad lighting), the atmosphere was fun, loud, and hip, and the food was fantastic. Someone (not named Parita) also enjoyed a few margaritas…ahem…Vishnu…ahem. Let’s just say he had a lot of fun – all in the name of National Margarita Day!
If you’re in the Fort Lauderdale area looking for a fun Mexican restaurant with great food (the guac was some of the best we’ve ever had), I highly recommend Rocco’s Tacos. We’ll definitely be eating there again.
Because of all the fun he had, Vishnu headed to bed super early. I tried to stay up and read, but that didn’t work out so well. I was fast asleep by 10:30. Crash and burn!
On Saturday morning I had plans to meet up a friend at Green Bar & Kitchen, a new vegan restaurant in town. My friend and I were lucky enough to meet the owner and talk to her for a few minutes. She’s a health and wellness coach with an amazing story to tell. This place deserves it’s own post (coming soon)! I will, however, share part of our breakfast – the Happy Hippie smoothie.
Coconut milk, kale, banana, pineapple, spirulina, bee pollen, and coconut oil
After chatting for an hour or so, my friend and I parted ways. I ran a few errands and then came home to do a little honeymoon and apartment research. We’re going to book our trip in the next week or so! Between the move coming up in early May and the trip in June, we’re going to have a crazy few months. Phew!
Saturday night, Vishnu and I drove to Miami to meet up some friends that were in town. Totally forgot to take pictures, but trust me…great conversation, great food, and a great time ensued.
Since we didn’t go to sleep until after midnight, we slept in a little and lounged around on Sunday morning. I finally got around to deep cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen, completing this awesome little strength circuit, and eventually, doing some grocery shopping. I wanted to get through my little routine fairly quickly so that I could watch the Oscars…with a huge bowl of this…
And that is exactly what happened!
Have a great Monday!
How was your weekend? Did you watch the Oscars?
*This post contains no Oscar commentary because I write my posts the night before they go live. So it’s currently 7:15 pm on Sunday night, and I’m watching the pre-Oscar stuff. So far so good!
Sounds like you had a perfect weekend…perfect mix of fun, relaxation and productivity! I’m especially drooling at that ice cream flavor! I’m yet to try coconut milk ice cream but I have no doubt that it tastes delicious! Hopefully they are showing Oscar reruns on tv tonight so I can watch them- I know the results but it’s always fun to see who’s wearing what!
I think you can catch the entire show online somewhere. I heard that this is the first time it’s been posted. 🙂
Glad you had a good weekend! I finally feel human again! Hung out with my friends for scary movie night (Sinister was HELLA freaky) and made our legit 6-second Vine movie review (we’re going to be famous!). Plus, they made me dinner which was fun! My hubby and I watched Argo on Sunday, then went into hyper-cleaning mode and cleaned our entire house on Sunday. Then I watched the Oscars. Pretty low key weekend, but just the way I like it 🙂
I can’t do scary movies anymore! It’s probably been 4 years since I’ve seen one. Haha! Glad you had a relaxing weekend!
I’ve heard good things about those shoes!!
I actually tried to get that ice cream last night! But the only flavors they had at the store were vanilla and cookie dough 🙁 Bummer!
Good to hear! They felt great on my feet so fingers crossed.
Poor Vishnu… how was he feeling Sat morning? 😉
I had a little Oscar party! We all loved the Les Mis performance and Adele. That girl blows me away!
Oh he was fine! Just super sleepy when we go home. He was probably more awake than I was the next morning!
I was flying home from Oklahoma all during the Oscars so I missed everything. I recorded it though and hope I can find time to catch up.
Sounds like the perfect weekend to me! And I couldn’t help but laugh at your comment about wanting to get through your routine quickly so that you could enjoy a bowl of ice cream… Thoughts of post-workout treats occupy my head about 80% of the time that I’m working out 😉
you always have such a fun productive weekend..my boyfriend is all about saucony but I havent tried them yet. Its such a great feeling that days are getting longer and time for outdoor runs yay. i have yet to try that ice cream. I missed Oscars as I was driving but reviewed the pics- OMG Jennifer Lawrence and Aniston looks stunning. I spent my weekend with the little bro- he turned 23, its happening so quick wow!
I did watch the Oscars, as you already know. 🙂 Agree with you, Jen Lawrence was my favorite. What did you think of the So Delicious Almond ice cream? Is it high in fat? If you havne’t already tried, Talenti’s Gelato is awesome and 30% less fat than ice cream. Sounds like you guys had a great fun weekend. 🙂
Green Bar & Kitchen? Been there, too. And I love their healthy drinks! Next time I go there, I’ll order that one you had. I wonder how the organic chlorella would taste. 🙂
It’s such a cute place, isn’t it!? That shake was really good – next time, I want to try the PB chocolate one 🙂
