Memory Lane

written by Parita Leave a Comment

Hello hello!  I can’t believe its already Sunday.  Wasn’t it just Friday like 2 seconds ago?!  I hope y’all had a great weekend.  My weekend actually ended up taking me down memory lane…in two different ways.

I’ll start with Saturday first.  I drove down to Rhode Island for the day to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins.  They still live in the same city I grew up in.  As I was driving to their house, I passed so many places that reminded me of my childhood – my dad’s old company, the park where I played baseball for eight summers, the ice cream shoppe my dad would take my sister and I to for milkshakes called Awful Awfuls (Awful big, Awful good), and my childhood best friend’s old house where I spent many of my afterschool days hanging out.

My aunt had prepared an Indian feast for me, and let me tell you, I ate to my heart’s content.  🙂  After lunch, my cousin and I left to drive around town so he could show me a few other places.  Our first stop was our elementary school.  I could feel myself getting emotional as I thought about recess, field trips, wall ball, hopscotch, music class, spelling bees, etc.  Where does the time go?!

Next, we drove by my preschool and my middle school.  We also drove by my old house.  For some reason, I didn’t feel any sort of sadness when I saw it.  I guess it’s because the new owners changed so much of it… it looked nothing like the house I grew up in.  We also drove around Providence for a bit.  I wanted to check out Brown’s campus – it’s beautiful!  Unfortunately, there was absolutely no parking anywhere, so I didn’t get to snap as many pictures as I wanted.

I hope to take more trips to RI over the next few months.  It was so nice to catch up with family and see all the places that made my childhood so great.

*********

I took another trip down memory lane today, except this one had to do with blogging and my first blogger meet-up!  Alexa and I met up for lunch at New Ginza in Watertown for some sushi.  Alexa’s blog was one of the first that I found after I started my own.  She told me today that I was her first commenter!  I love her blog because it’s a fun read, full of easy-to-follow recipes, and after meeting her today, I can say with certainty that each of her posts is a true reflection of who she is.  Our conversation was full of fun topics – why/when we started blogging, favorite blogs, family, boyfriends, friends, work, etc.  It was actually really cool how much we already knew about one another without never having met before.  I admitted to her that I was a little bit nervous about today because I just didn’t know what to expect.  She admitted the same and likened our meet-up to a blind blogger date.  LOL!  I hope to meet up with her again…we already discussed the possibility of Red Lentil!

Two hungry bloggers!

Twice in one weekend - lucky me! And this sushi was really unique - one roll was a sweet potato maki and the other was an avocado, cream cheese, carrot, and tofu skin roll. SO GOOD!

I’m so thankful to the blog world for introducing me to Alexa and all of you!!!  🙂

Have a great Sunday evening…see ya lata alligatas!!

Sounds like a fun weekend. I have never met any blogger in real life, may be someday.

Looks like so much fun. I love both of your blogs and I would love to do a Boston meet up sometime with people that I read in the area. So cool that we have such a community of like-minded people all around us.

Sounds like a great weekend! I can’t believe it’s Sunday too – but somehow Sunday night is so much better on a totally busy weekend for me! Still dreading waking up early, but at least I fought off the Sunday blues!

That’s so neat you are getting to visit old stomping grounds!

Are you going to get to go cheer for the marathon?
