Sweet Surprise

Happy Thursday…only one more day until Friday!  Woot woot!  🙂

What’s the best way to celebrate the arrival of the weekend?!  With a chocolately treat you say?!  I couldn’t agree more!

I got home from work today, made and ate some nachos for dinner, and then stood in front of the pantry for five minutes searching for something sweet.  See, I have a super sweet tooth, so this means that after dinner I am always trying to find a little treat for myself.  When I was younger, I could down six Chips Ahoy cookies easy.  Unfortunately, today was a bit rough because there was nothing sweet in sight.  However, I am not one to give up, so I racked my brain and finally came up with an idea – microwaveable brownies.  Well, having an idea is always a good thing but then what.  I have never made brownies in the microwave, so I called upon my trusted friend Google to help me out.  After a quick search on “microwaveable brownie recipes,” I found exactly what I was looking for, so here’s how I went from sweetless to ooey gooey chocolately goodness in less than three minutes.

Microwaveable Brownie Bowl
Adapted from this recipe

3 tablespoons unsweetened apple sauce
1 tablespoon water
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 small pinch of salt
3 tablespoons raw organic sugar
2 tablespoons dark chocolate cocoa powder (I use Hershey’s)
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Whisk together apple sauce, water, vanilla extract, and salt in a deep bowl. Then, one at a time, add the dry ingredients, whisking in between. Once all the ingredients are combined, microwave for 45-60 seconds and enjoy!  The brownie will be very hot so very careful.

Brownie batter!
Brownie bowl!

These pictures aren’t the prettiest, but let me tell you, this little bowl was just what I was looking for!

Do you have a chronic sweet tooth?  If so, what’s your favorite way to satisfy it?

  1. Total sweet tooth. And it needs to be taken care of daily. Often, I use these little ramekins I have and they’re just big enough for me to fill with whatever- cereal, chocolate chips, coconut, pb, etc… whatever works. 🙂

  2. I mostly have to eat something sweet after dinner or anytime in the evening in general. If I cannot find something good,I just munch on chocolate chips. This recipe is a great idea.

  3. That looks delicious! I don’t own a micro so I wonder if it would work in an oven? I have a chronic sweet tooth that that pesters me every night without fail. But that’s nothing that a teaspoon of dark choc dreams pb or lindt sea salt can’t fix!

  4. OMG! I am just like you…or may be you’re just like me in this area…hehehe…as a lst resort if all fails I would take few pieces of almond, walnut and some dry cranberry, blue berry and raisin to satisfy my sweet craving after dinner and it works for me…last night i found a small (last) piece of Chillean chocolate for my sweet craving…thanks to aek…

  5. This looks SO good! I will most definitely have to try this very soon! I do have a sweet tooth and have to admit that I eat desert every single day! But I think that it’s okay as long as it’s in moderation! My favorite would definitely have to be popcorn & dark chocolate covered raisins! They go SO well together! 🙂

  6. Omg I want that brownie bowl! I think I have a pretty bad sweet tooth but luckily I’m good with staying away from cookies and what not .

  7. This looks SO good! I have the biggest sweet tooth – but my body can’t handle sugar, so I don’t get to eat dessert very often! I totally miss it too – but it is definitely the food that I have a tendency to over-indulge in!

  8. Ahh – I wish I had read this like 2 minutes ago.. before I got up and got dark chocloate to eat.. becauseI def would have made this instead.. tomorrow I suppose!
